Wofford Finalizes 2026 Schedule, Adds Kent State, Concludes at Ole Miss
Wofford finalized its 2026 schedule, adding a Sept. 12 game at Kent State and closing the regular season at Ole Miss - a blend of SoCon tests and high-profile FBS exposure.

Wofford announced a completed 2026 slate that mixes Southern Conference tests with two significant FBS matchups, most notably a season finale at Ole Miss on Nov. 21. The Terriers open at home Aug. 29 against The Citadel, host Gardner-Webb on Sept. 5, and travel to Kent State on Sept. 12 after replacing an earlier Ohio date. The SoCon schedule features road trips to Chattanooga and Furman, and home dates against Tennessee Tech, Samford, VMI, ETSU, and Western Carolina.
The calendar matters on multiple levels for a program coming off a 6-6 season in 2025 with a 5-3 mark in conference play. Head coach Shawn Watson returns for his fifth season, providing continuity that Wofford will lean on as it navigates a slate that pairs traditional rivalry games with games designed for exposure and recruiting. The Kent State addition gives Wofford another FBS opponent and a regional stage to test its depth and speed against a higher level of competition. The trip to Ole Miss offers national visibility and the kind of single-game spotlight that can help with recruiting and program finances.
Within conference play, key matchups stand out as measuring sticks. The Sept. 19 trip to Chattanooga and the Oct. 3 trip to Furman will serve as early season barometers for Wofford’s defense and ability to win on the road. Hosting Tennessee Tech on Sept. 26 brings a new opponent into the SoCon mix, creating uncertainty and opportunity for the Terriers to assert control at home. Late October and November will be pivotal stretches: Oct. 31 at Samford and Nov. 7 at Western Carolina are likely to decide divisional positioning, while Nov. 14 against ETSU shapes postseason possibilities.
From a business standpoint, adding Kent State and finishing at Ole Miss is strategic. FBS matchups generate paydays and broadcast chances that mid-major FCS programs rely on to fund facility upgrades, travel budgets, and recruiting. The Ole Miss finale in particular is a marquee event that will draw recruits, alumni, and attention beyond the immediate region. Culturally, these games connect Wofford’s small college identity to the broader college football ecosystem, giving players the chance to perform on larger stages and fans national storylines to follow.

For coaches and staff, the schedule demands roster depth and adaptive game planning. With Watson’s system in place for five seasons, Wofford will aim to translate continuity into on-field execution against varied opponents. The early home dates provide windows to build momentum before the program confronts FBS opponents and the midseason grind of SoCon play.
What this means for fans is a season with high-stakes Saturdays and opportunities for statement wins. Expect the Terriers to target home wins early, treat Kent State as a chance to showcase program growth, and use the Ole Miss trip to elevate the profile of Wofford football heading into recruiting season.
