Indiana sets official visit for top center recruit Darius Wabbington

Indiana has set an official visit with Darius Wabbington, giving the Hoosiers a crack at one of the most coveted big men in the 2027 class. The top-15 overall recruit is expected to be in Bloomington the weekend of Sept. 6, a trip that comes as Indiana presses to secure a high-school center in a class that could shape its frontcourt for years.

Wabbington’s profile explains why the visit matters. ESPN lists the Sunnyslope High School center from Phoenix at 6-10 and 225 pounds, with a scout grade of 91. He is ranked No. 15 overall in the 2027 class, No. 3 among centers, No. 5 in the West region and No. 3 in Arizona. Other coverage has put him at 6-foot-11 and called him a five-star prospect, with one evaluation even slotting him as the No. 1 center in the class.

The recruitment is already national in scope. Along with Indiana, Wabbington is also scheduled to visit Louisville, Arizona and Texas, and his list has reportedly been trimmed to six schools: Arizona, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina and Texas. That gives the Hoosiers the kind of competition that usually decides elite frontcourt targets, not fringe options.

Indiana’s position in the race is notable because the program had already offered Wabbington before securing the official visit. That kind of follow-through matters with a prospect who has spent much of the cycle drawing attention as one of the class’s premier interior players. Wabbington has also said he will be evaluating his relationship with coaches and a school’s style of play, two areas that will sit at the center of Indiana’s pitch in Bloomington.

For Indiana, landing Wabbington would mean more than adding size. It would signal that the Hoosiers can win a head-to-head recruiting battle against Louisville, Arizona and Texas for an elite big man with national appeal. With his mix of ranking, length and upside, Wabbington has become the type of center that programs build around, and September’s visit will give Indiana a chance to prove it belongs in that tier of the chase.
