$650,000 Medaglia d’Oro colt tops record OBS June sale

The final major juvenile auction of 2026 ended with a horse built for the track as much as the ring. Hip 824, Bulmaro, a Medaglia d’Oro colt consigned by Marcial Galan, brought $650,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales June 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale, which ran June 16-18 in Ocala, Florida, from a catalogue of 981 horses, including supplemental entries. Donato Lanni, acting for Zedan Racing Stables, made the winning bid.

Bulmaro’s appeal started before the hammer fell. He worked an eighth in :9 4/5 during the OBS under-tack show, tying for the fastest time at the distance, and Jason Hall said the colt lost about three months of training after a stall accident last winter that caused a foreleg hematoma. That backstory gave the price added weight: this was not just a fast breeze horse, but a colt who had to recover from a setback and still showed enough quality to attract serious money.

The number also landed in a market that kept stretching all spring. OBS said all three of its 2-year-old sales in 2026 set records. The March sale closed with a record gross of $72,050,000, an average of $162,641 and a median of $85,000, while the April Spring Sale set records for gross, average and median and produced an OBS-record $10.5 million Flightline colt. By the time the June session arrived, buyers had already shown they would keep paying for the right juveniles, even after a long run of headline prices.

That made Bulmaro’s result more than a single big bid. It was the latest sign that the upper end of the 2-year-old market still has room to run, especially for horses with proven commercial pedigrees and enough physical ability to hint at a stakes path later in the summer. Medaglia d’Oro remains a sire line buyers trust when the goal is not just speed in a breeze, but a horse that can carry that speed into races that matter.

OBS Director of Sales Tod Wojciechowski called 2026 a “banner year” and said the June sale ended “on a high note.” The confidence was not limited to Ocala, either, with Fasig-Tipton’s Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale also posting its highest gross, average and median. For Marcial Galan, Bulmaro set a personal benchmark as the highest-priced horse ever out of his consignment. For the rest of the juvenile crop, he was the sale horse that showed the market still had teeth.
