Belle's Keeneland debut, near-miss hints at bright future for Attard barn
Belle was beaten only a head in a loaded Keeneland maiden, but the Uncle Mo filly’s debut looked like the kind that turns into a next-out win.

Belle did not win her Keeneland debut, but the head loss told a far better story than the placing. In a seven-furlong maiden special weight on April 11, the Kevin Attard trainee was only narrowly denied by La Rascasse, a first-time starter who earned TDN Rising Star status after surviving the pressure late.
That margin matters. Belle was not beaten through a lack of ability; she was beaten in a race that had legitimate quality from the jump and kept getting stronger as it unfolded. La Rascasse had to fight off Belle inside the final furlong, and the top three came home as La Rascasse, Belle and Al Ghadeer. When a maiden race produces that kind of separation at the wire, it usually means the second-place finisher ran into more than just an ordinary field.
Belle’s profile also reads like one worth patience. She is a Kentucky-bred bay filly foaled April 4, 2023, by Uncle Mo out of Lunar Evening, by Malibu Moon. That is the sort of pedigree that can produce enough pace and class to be dangerous early, and Belle showed both the professionalism and the finish to suggest there is more in the tank once she has another start under her belt.

Equibase lists Belle as owned by X-Men Racing V LLC and Madaket Stables LLC, with Kazushi Kimura aboard for Attard. That connection adds another layer of interest. Attard entered 2026 with 33 starts, 7 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds, along with $364,382 in earnings through April 1, and his career line stood at 5,516 starts, 904 wins, 857 seconds, 726 thirds and $49,297,183. Those are not the numbers of a barn that misses much when it sees a filly with a future.
The comparison to Moira is the part that should make horseplayers pay attention. Attard has already helped turn one similar filly into a serious runner, and Belle now fits the same developmental script: a polished first effort, a strong race shape, and a result that looks better with context than it does on paper. If she returns in similar company, the next trip around Keeneland could easily belong to her.
