Fred Allor did not blink at the screen. The 87-year-old breeder from Fenton, Michigan, went to $230,000 for Citizen Judy, making the four-year-old winning daughter of American Freedom the top price of Fasig-Tipton’s April Digital Sale and giving the auction its clearest human-interest moment.

The bid was a strong vote of confidence in what digital sales can deliver when the right horse lands in front of the right buyer. Citizen Judy, hip 15, was offered by Eaton Sales, agent, and Fasig-Tipton said she was in foal for 2027 to Girvin. That combination, a proven runner with immediate broodmare appeal and a current foal prospect attached, helped make her stand out in a format where buyers weigh catalog data, updates and recent form without the theater of a live ring.

Allor, who said it was his first time taking part in a digital sale, praised the platform as easy to use and the information as first-class. His background in the sport made the move feel less like a novelty than a seasoned horseman’s judgment call. He said he had been in racing since he was 12, previously owned, bred and trained Wind Chill, and more recently bred and raced Five Iron. That history helps explain why an older buyer would still chase a young mare with upside: the right pedigree can still justify a bold number.

Citizen Judy’s appeal was amplified by her family. She is a half-sister to Percy’s Bar, who won the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on April 3 in 1:45.72 for 1 1/16 miles, a performance that earned 100 Kentucky Oaks qualifying points and pushed her into the top tier of the Oaks picture. In a market that responds quickly to live updates, that kind of family résumé can move a horse from merely interesting to must-have.

The April Digital Sale closed Tuesday night with gross sales of $2,056,000 from 94 horses sold and an 83% clearance rate. Leif Aaron said horses with recent form or updates in the family continued to attract attention, while Pam Deegan called the Citizen Judy result outstanding. Brazen Persuasion’s $200,000 sale, coming a day after her two-year-old daughter brought $2.3 million at public auction, underlined the same point: in online bloodstock markets, timely pedigree news and fresh black-type continue to drive the strongest bids.
