Dropping Dimes rallies late to win Miss Polly Classic Stakes at Delta Downs
Dropping Dimes came from sixth at the first call to win the Grade III Miss Polly Classic by a head, pushing his earnings past $150,000 and sharpening his Delta Downs profile.

Dropping Dimes turned a slow start into a serious statement, rolling from sixth at the first call to catch Jj Jessa Dynasty in the final strides and win the $50,000 Miss Polly Classic Stakes by a head at Delta Downs. The Louisiana-bred gelding by Apollitical Blood stopped the clock in :19.910 for 400 yards over a fast track, good for a 95 speed index and a black-type victory that looked more like a horse maturing into his form than a one-off upset.
Jorge Javier Garcia gave him a patient ride for trainer Josue Ponce, and the payoff came only after Dropping Dimes had been forced to work through an imperfect break from the outside post. He was a step slow leaving the gate, settled before the first call, then kept lengthening his stride as the race tightened in the lane. That late kick was enough to run down Jj Jessa Dynasty, who had controlled much of the race before settling for second and boosting her earnings to $99,928. Jd Heza Paintedeagle finished third, followed by One Sweet Boss, LRH Jess Shake It Up, El Turista, San Lorenzo Princess, and Leaving Coyame.
The win mattered beyond the photo finish. Dropping Dimes moved his career mark to seven wins from 16 starts and pushed his earnings to $150,813, crossing the $150,000 threshold in the process. He also reaffirmed how well he has handled Delta Downs, where he has won five times in eight starts. That includes his 2025 Treme Derby victory, when he covered 350 yards in 17.583 seconds and earned a 96 speed index. Taken together, those results point to a horse whose best work has come on this surface and under these conditions, not just a runner who happened to catch lightning once.

The timing gave the victory extra weight. The Miss Polly Classic sat on opening night of Delta Downs’ 46-day Quarter Horse meet, which began April 24 and runs through July 18, with first post set for 6:15 p.m. CST. For Jaime Cardenas, with Dropping Dimes bred by Ryan and Danielle Robicheaux, the result elevated a local stakes regular into a horse worth tracking closely in the division. He no longer looks like just a Delta Downs story from one good night. He looks like a horse with a pattern, and that can change how horseplayers and rivals read every future start.
