Exosome Nominated to Wood Memorial and Kentucky Derby Trail
Kelsey Danner's Exosome earned nominations to the Grade 2 Wood Memorial and the Kentucky Derby trail, putting the NBS Stable colt squarely in the spring classic conversation.

Kelsey Danner's Exosome picked up nominations to the Grade 2 Wood Memorial and the Kentucky Derby trail, giving the NBS Stable colt a defined path toward the first Saturday in May.
The Wood Memorial, scheduled for April 4 at Aqueduct, is one of the last major preps before the Kentucky Derby and carries significant points for horses on the road to Churchill Downs. A strong finish there can vault a lightly regarded horse into serious Derby contention, making the nomination meaningful beyond a simple calendar placeholder.
NYRA announced the nomination on March 15, and the decision signals that Danner and NBS Stable believe Exosome is ready to compete at the highest level of the three-year-old crop. The Wood Memorial has historically served as a launching pad: in recent years, it has sent horses directly into Derby weekend conversations, and the Grade 2 designation means the competition Exosome would face carries legitimate credentials.

The details of Exosome's prior record were not part of the nomination announcement, but the decision to nominate a horse to both a graded stakes prep and the Derby trail at the same time reflects a camp that is thinking in terms of the full spring campaign rather than a single race. Trainers who nominate early and to multiple races typically have a horse they consider versatile enough to handle different track conditions and distances, or at minimum one they want to keep options open for as the prep season develops.
Danner, who trains Exosome for NBS Stable, now has a firm April 4 target circled with the broader Derby picture in the background. Whether Exosome ultimately runs in the Wood Memorial, continues on a different prep path, or earns enough points to make the Derby field will become clearer in the weeks ahead as entries are drawn and final decisions made.
