Extremely Zain did not win at Newbury like a finished article. He won like a colt with more power than polish, and that is what makes the result matter for Hello Youmzain’s prospects as a source of better horses.

The 3yo French-bred colt, owned by Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum and trained by William Haggas, landed the 3:53 Trade Nation Novice Stakes over 7 furlongs at Class 4 level on May 15, stopping the clock in 1m 27.29s. He went off 8-11 after an authoritative debut success at Newcastle on December 29, 2025, but this was a far less tidy performance. Cieren Fallon had to keep him restrained early, the colt fought that restraint, and he raced keenly before straightening up and taking command inside the final furlong.

That was the point. Extremely Zain had to solve problems rather than simply overpower rivals, and he still found enough class to beat Erudition by a neck, with Sponsor 1 1/2 lengths back in third. He had already shown promise when beating Starryfield by 1 1/2 lengths on debut in a 6f EBF Novice Stakes at Newcastle, but Newbury asked a different question: could he cope with traffic, tempo and a rider trying to teach him to do things the right way. He answered that question while still looking a touch green, which is often where the better juveniles separate themselves from the merely useful ones.

Haggas has no reason to rush him. A mile looks a logical next move, and handicaps may be the next stepping stone before he is asked to deal with more demanding company. That restraint fits the profile of a colt still learning how to channel a strong stride and obvious natural ability. Fallon’s task was as much education as execution, and the fact that the horse still prevailed suggests his ceiling is higher than a straightforward novice winner’s.

The pedigree strengthens that view. Extremely Zain is by Hello Youmzain, who stood for €25,000 in 2026, down from €40,000 the year before, and is being pitched at Haras d’Etreham as a leading second-crop sire in Europe by winners. Hello Youmzain was a Group 2 winner at 2 and a Group 1 winner at 3, and this colt adds to the sense that the stallion is building commercial momentum. Extremely Zain is out of Alone, a full-sister to Lush Lashes, whose Coronation Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks and Matron Stakes wins give the family proven top-level depth. With a €185,000 breeze-up tag and two wins from two starts, he already looks like more than an early-season novice horse.
