Fasig-Tipton is bringing back a piece of Mid-Atlantic racing history. The auction house announced on March 10 that its annual fall yearling sale in Timonium, Maryland will be reorganized for 2026 under a new format, adjusted calendar, and a restored name: Eastern Fall Yearlings, the historic title the sale carried before it became known simply as the Timonium Yearling Sale.

The revival is more than cosmetic. Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning framed the change as a deliberate repositioning to capitalize on what he sees as a pivotal moment for regional racing. "There is a bright future ahead for the region, and we feel that now is an opportune time to reorganize our yearling sale to promote this regional momentum and bring renewed focus to the strength of Eastern racing and what it offers," Browning said. He added that the sale "has been an important fixture in this racing-rich area for decades."

The backdrop is significant. Construction projects at both Pimlico and Belmont Park have signaled a new era for Mid-Atlantic and Northeast racing circuits, lending weight to Fasig-Tipton's argument that the timing is right for a structural refresh.

The 2026 Eastern Fall Yearlings sale is set for Tuesday, Oct. 27, a date chosen deliberately around Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, which falls the preceding Saturday at Laurel Park. The proximity to one of the region's marquee race days is designed to draw buyers already traveling to Maryland for the weekend.

The revised format also carries a specific pitch for New York breeders. Browning noted that the new structure groups all New York-breds together in the catalogue. "This revised structure is designed to let every state-bred program shine," he said. "It should be of particular interest to New York breeders, offering them a smaller but similar feel to our New York-bred yearling sale in the summer, as all the New York-breds are catalogued together."

Fasig-Tipton staff will be on-site at Colonial Downs to field questions about the Eastern Fall Yearlings and its new format ahead of the October sale. Further information is available through Paget Bennett at (410) 392-5555.

Lot counts, consignment details, and the full session structure have not yet been disclosed. With seven months before the gavel falls, the auction house has time to build the catalogue around the regional narrative it is staking the rebrand on.
