Gulfstream's 14-Race Stakes-Heavy Card Highlights GII Fountain of Youth, Eight Graded Stakes
Gulfstream Park’s 14-race, stakes-heavy Fountain of Youth Day features a $425,000 G2 Fountain of Youth and sky-high pools - Sports Yahoo pegs the 20-cent Rainbow 6 at $500,000.

Gulfstream Park is staging a 14-race, stakes-heavy Fountain of Youth Day, will the 20-cent Rainbow 6 estimated at $500,000 and a $1.5 million late Pick 5 produce the kind of jackpots that alter Derby betting? Sports Yahoo estimates the Rainbow 6 jackpot at $500,000 for Saturday, and the same report projects a 50-cent Early Pick 5 spanning Races 1–5 at $750,000 and a 50-cent Late Pick 5 spanning Races 10–14 at $1.5 million.
The program is anchored by the $425,000 Coolmore Fountain of Youth (G2) at 1 1/16 miles, a key Road to the Kentucky Derby prep that most outlets list as offering 105 qualifying points to the top five on a 50-25-15-10-5 basis. A Gulfstream Park press release contains an alternate line listing the points split as 50-20-15-10-5, a discrepancy reporters flagged alongside differing field-size counts; Sports Yahoo described the field as 10, while Gulfstream copy and Today’s Racing Digest say the race “drew 11.”
The Fountain’s declared contenders across source reports include Commandment, the dominant winner of the Mucho Macho Man on Jan. 3; undefeated Grade 1 winner Napoleon Solo; Jan. 31 Swale victor Solitude Dude; Dec. 13 debut winner Jackson Hole; and Chief Wallabee, trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, who won last year’s Fountain with Horse of the Year Sovereignty. Gulfstream materials also note last year’s Fountain winner Burnham Square returns on the undercard in an allowance optional claiming at 1 1/16 miles on the turf after finishing second in the Nashville Derby Aug. 30.
Undercard stakes lend depth and exotic leverage. Race 3 is the $200,000 Colonel Liam on the grass, Race 4 the $175,000 Canadian Turf with graded-stakes millionaire Wolfie’s Dynaghost making an 8-year-old debut, Race 6 the $200,000 Herecomesthebride (G3) where Sister Troienne chases a sixth straight victory, and Race 7 the $225,000 Gulfstream Park Mile (G3) with two-time G3 winner Knightsbridge. The $225,000 Davona Dale (G2) for 3-year-old fillies drew nine and lists On Time Girl, Imperatrice and Haute Diva among the entrants. Gulfstream and Sports Yahoo list first-race post time for the Feb. 28 program at 11:30 a.m. ET.
Today’s Racing Digest frames Saturday as a multi-race betting opportunity, urging players to “protect logical outcomes on top while still giving ourselves room to get paid underneath.” TRD’s Fast Figs table totals $8,414 across wagers with Exacta $783, Tri $1,578, Super $1,871 and Pick 3 $2,988, showing how analytical ticket building can target exotic upside on a stakes-heavy card. TRD also defines its FIRE Number as reflecting speed throughout the race, treating roughly two points as about a length.

Rainbow 6 history at Gulfstream’s Championship Meet underpins betting interest: since the meet opened Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, the Rainbow 6 has been hit six times, including a $416,348.44 jackpot on Jan. 8, mandatory payouts of $31,679.80 on Feb. 15 and a $77,814.84 score Feb. 20. Horse Race Insider explains the wager mechanics: “In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.”
Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. frames Solitude Dude as a live Fountain candidate while flagging the two-turn question. Joseph told Offtrackbetting, “The horse is a good horse. I think the horse is a high quality horse. I think he has Grade 1 ability,” and added, “Will he win a Grade 1 around two turns? I don't know about that. Time will tell if we'll even try it, but he has Grade 1 ability at a mile or less.” Joseph said the Fountain “is the most realistic” route to test two turns.
With the Curlin Florida Derby (G1) staged at Gulfstream on March 28 with a $1 million purse, Saturday’s pools and the Fountain finish will reshape forward Derby plans and the early leaderboard for the May 2 Kentucky Derby. Jockey notes include Gulfstream’s report that Irad Ortiz Jr. rode four winners Saturday, a meet-level indicator of form to watch as bettors parse results and Derby points.
