Little Krush wins Nebraska HBPA Stallion Auction Stakes, nears track record
Little Krush missed the Legacy Downs record by 0.20 seconds while winning a Nebraska stakes that still carries real breeding and business value.

Little Krush turned a regional sprint into a near-record statement, winning the Nebraska HBPA Stallion Auction Stakes at Legacy Downs in 1:03.80 and missing the track mark of 1:03.60 by just two-fifths of a second. For owners and breeders operating outside the major circuits, that kind of result is the payoff: a stakes line, a visible time on the chart and a win that can change the next assignment.
The 3-year-old gelding, ridden by Adrian B. Medina, finished the 5 1/2-furlong dirt race on a good track in the first race of the May 17, 2026 card, which went off at 1:31 p.m. The event carried a $25,000-added purse and was listed at $26,050 in the charted results, a reminder that state and regional programs often deliver the kind of practical purse money and black-type opportunity that can matter more to a barn than a bigger-name race far from home.
That structure is part of what makes the Nebraska HBPA Stallion Auction Stakes significant beyond the local headline. The race was restricted to 3-year-olds and to progeny of stallions that sold a season in the 2022 Nebraska HBPA Stallion Service Auction, then were nominated to the 2026 running. That gives the race a direct connection to the state breeding economy, creating a path for stallion supporters, breeders and horsemen to turn nomination dollars into a live stakes chance.

Little Krush fit that profile as a colt with room to keep climbing. Trained by Chris Coughlin for JL Racing LLC and bred in Kentucky by Charles Fipke, he came into the race with starts at Fonner Park, Hawthorne Race Course and Oaklawn Park on his card. His seasonal record now shows three starts, one win, one second and one third, the sort of incremental progression that often turns a developing runner into a useful stakes horse.
His pedigree gives the performance even more weight. Little Krush is by Tale of Ekati out of the Orb mare Pleasant Orb, and Tale of Ekati’s broader record, three champions, 42 stakes horses, 75 percent winners from starters and more than $26 million in progeny earnings, adds credibility to a regional sprint win that can still carry serious breeding value. In a race built to reward nominated bloodlines, Little Krush’s close call with the track record was more than a good number on paper. It was a signal that he belongs in the next wave of regional sprint spots where speed, position and timing will again decide the outcome.
