Mythical romps by 5 1/2 lengths in Gulfstream fillies sprint stakes
Mythical left no doubt at Gulfstream, flashing past the field in 1:09.52 and strengthening her case as a filly to watch on the graded-stakes trail.

Mythical did not simply win the $100,000 FHBPA Sophomore Fillies Sprint at Gulfstream Park. She turned the 6-furlong stakes into a one-horse statement, drawing off on fast dirt to win by 5 1/2 lengths in 1:09.52 as the 1-9 favorite in Race 9.
The margin mattered as much as the clock. This was not a grind-it-out photo finish or a race that left room for doubt. Mythical was handled as a serious stakes filly and raced like one, putting daylight between herself and the field in a performance that reinforced why Jorge Delgado and Arindel have been pointing her toward tougher company.
That confidence has been building for months. Before Saturday, Gulfstream had already framed the race as a steppingstone to future graded-stakes engagements, with Delgado saying Mythical was “maturing mentally” and that he felt she would have her best moment. Edgard J. Zayas returned from New York to ride, and after the race he said he hoped Mythical could prove she was “probably” a Grade 1 filly this year. Gulfstream said the victory was Mythical’s sixth stakes win in nine career starts.
The resume behind that leap is already deep for a 3-year-old filly. Mythical won the Tremont Stakes against boys and the Adirondack Stakes (G3) at Saratoga as a juvenile, finished fifth in the Spinaway Stakes (G1), then closed her 2-year-old season with back-to-back Florida Sire Stakes victories in the Susan’s Girl and My Dear Girl. On Saturday, the Florida-bred homebred by St Patrick’s Day out of Lailoni showed the kind of acceleration that can travel beyond the regional sprint ranks.
The timing also fits the bigger picture. Gulfstream said Mythical is likely to run next in the $175,000 Jersey Girl at Saratoga on June 4, a trip that would push her further onto the national stage. Delgado said that spot makes sense because she is “very, very tough at six furlongs.” For Arindel, the result was another reminder that its Florida-based program can produce horses with real stakes punch, and for the betting public, it was another loud signal that Mythical is no longer just a fast filly in a soft spot. She looks like a filly with graded ambitions, and the way she handled Gulfstream made that hard to ignore.
