The Philippine Pickleball League will launch the PPL Luzon Open on January 16 at The Dink Lab in Kawit, Cavite, staging one of the Philippines' largest multi-day pickleball events. With six full days of competition across two weekends, ₱700,000 in cash and sponsored merchandise on the line, and 35 championship divisions, the tournament aims to serve players from youth and novice levels through Open tiers.

Play will run January 16 to 18 and January 23 to 25 on 13 dedicated courts split between The Dink Lab Main and The Dink Lab Elite. Organizers expect over 2,000 participants and spectators across the two-weekend format. Baseline will manage match schedules and results, so players and coaches should confirm brackets and check-ins on the platform before their first matches.

The Luzon Open covers Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and team events for advanced divisions, with youth and novice brackets running alongside Open, Advanced, and Intermediate tiers. Open categories will use sideout scoring, while the remainder of the draw follows round-robin pools feeding into single elimination brackets. That mix of formats gives competitive players plenty of match play and opportunities for developing players to progress through pools without a sudden exit.

International participation raises the event's profile. Vietnamese professional athlete Sophia Anh Tran Phuong is confirmed to play, joining local community favourites such as Dudut Lang. The roster and seeded players will be important for anyone tracking potential title matchups or looking to scout higher-level competition in person.

The Luzon Open is framed as the opening act in PPL's broader initiative to expand national-scale tournaments to Visayas and Mindanao. For regional organizers and club leaders, that signals a push toward a coordinated national calendar and more regular, higher-stakes events for top players. Local businesses and sponsors are also stepping up; powered-by sponsor Polland Hopia joins partners Facolos Philippines, Oasis Home, Sypik Philippines, Pelago, QESH Training Center, Nature’s Spring Water, Tela Athletics, Baseline, and media partner Manila Bulletin.

For players and spectators, the event offers practical benefits: sustained match windows across two weekends, clear scoring rules for each tier, centralized scheduling on Baseline, and high-capacity court access at a single venue. For developing players, sharing courts with pros and advanced teams provides a fast track for learning court craft, kitchen strategy, and tournament pacing.

The takeaway? Treat this as both a competitive target and a learning opportunity. Arrive ready to dink, poach, and recover; check Baseline for court times; and expect heavy traffic at The Dink Lab over both weekends. If you want to see where Philippine pickleball is heading, this one will show the direction.
