Skechers did more than refresh a colorway in Malaysia. By expanding its Viper Court line and putting three local pickleball names in the frame, the brand treated the sport like a serious market, not a side project, and that is the kind of move that usually follows demand, not speculation.

The new push centers on the Viper Court Elite 2.0 and Viper Court Pro 2.0, plus the Hands Free Slip-ins Relaxed Fit Viper Court Elite 2.0, Viper Court Rally and other court-specific variations built for quick lateral movement, responsiveness, cushioning and stability. The Pro 2.0 has been redesigned with an enhanced upper using mesh technology aimed at durability without giving up breathability or flexibility. The Elite 2.0 adds a Heel Pillow, adjustable laces and top strap, a removable Arch Fit insole, ECO FLIGHT midsole cushioning and a Goodyear gold compound non-marking outsole, the kind of spec sheet that tells you the company is chasing players who care about movement, not just style.

That matters because footwear is often the cleanest tell that a sport has crossed into commercial maturity. When a brand starts engineering products specifically for pickleball, it is acknowledging that players are no longer just borrowing tennis shoes and making do. Skechers also leaned on foot-health credentials, pointing to APMA acceptance and its Arch Fit system, which the company says was developed from more than 20 years of data and 120,000 foot scans. The American Podiatric Medical Association says its Seal of Acceptance goes to products that promote good foot health and allow normal foot function.

The athlete side of the campaign was just as telling. Skechers featured Colin Wong, who renewed his partnership, along with women’s doubles players Toi Sieu Ee and Delia Arnold. That local trio gives the launch something imported ads often lack: recognizable Malaysian faces attached to actual performance pathways. Wong has been identified as a rising Malaysian player and a UPA Asia Trailblazer, while Toi and Delia have already shown up in competitive women’s doubles settings, which makes the endorsement feel tied to the court, not just the storefront.

The bigger backdrop is hard to ignore. The Malaysia Pickleball Association says the country now has more than 400,000 players, 74 tournaments, 472-plus venues and 500-plus coaches. The Asia Federation of Pickleball lists 18 members and estimates 70,000 players across member countries. Skechers Malaysia is selling the collection at selected stores nationwide, including Pavilion KL, Suria KLCC, Sunway Pyramid and The Exchange TRX, with prices starting from RM399. That is the commercial proof point: specialized gear, local ambassadors and a growing buyer base, all at the same time.
