Dulles South Food Pantry Names A Simple Gesture April Doorstep Pickup Partner

Dulles South Food Pantry's March 2026 newsletter, published March 12, named A Simple Gesture as its doorstep food collection partner, describing the green bag pickup model as a "simple, high-leverage way for local donors to restock food pantry shelves."

The program works through a straightforward exchange: DSFP provides a green bag to participating households, who fill it with nonperishable food according to a schedule that runs five times per year. Volunteer drivers then retrieve the filled bags directly from participants' homes and deliver the contents to the pantry at 24757 Arcola Mills Drive in Dulles.

Eligibility for doorstep pickup is defined by high school attendance boundaries. DSFP will send a volunteer driver to households that fall within the zones for Briar Woods, Freedom, Independence, John Champe, Lightridge, or Rock Ridge High Schools. The pantry's newsletter identified specific items running short on its shelves. On the canned side, the most-needed products include tuna, chicken, peanut butter, canned fruit, tomato sauce, tomato paste, pasta sauce, sardines, hearty soup, mac and cheese cups, oil, and jelly. For dry goods, the pantry is seeking cereal, instant oatmeal, cereal bars, one- to two-pound bags of rice, dry beans, lentils, spaghetti, whole grain pasta, raisins, fruit cups, popcorn, and granola bars.
