Dollar General Opens New Store in Spartansburg With Saturday Celebration

Dollar General's newest Pennsylvania location, at 43214 State Highway 77 in Spartansburg, opened this week and is throwing a Saturday morning celebration to mark the occasion. The grand-opening event kicks off at 8 a.m., with $10 gift cards going to the first 50 adult customers through the door and Dollar General tote bags for the first 100 customers overall. The store runs daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Spartansburg location is expected to bring between six and 10 jobs to the community, a range that will settle based on the store's individual operational needs. Matthew Simonsen, Dollar General's senior vice president of business intelligence and development, framed the opening around four specific benefits: job creation, affordable product access, local tax revenue, and eligibility for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants.

"At Dollar General, we believe the addition of our new Spartansburg store provides positive economic growth for the community through the creation of new jobs and career growth opportunities; increased accessibility to affordable products; the generation of tax revenue and access to Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants," Simonsen said. He added: "As part of our mission of Serving Others, we look forward to being a strong business partner and good neighbor, as well as welcoming customers to our new store."

The literacy component is worth noting for anyone connected to local schools or nonprofits. Any school, nonprofit organization, or library within a 15-mile radius of the Spartansburg store is now eligible to apply for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants. The foundation has distributed more than $275 million to nonprofit organizations since its 1993 launch and has helped more than 23.8 million people pursue literacy or continue their education.

For a small community like Spartansburg, that 15-mile eligibility radius likely covers a meaningful slice of Crawford County's educational institutions, making the grant access potentially as significant as the retail footprint itself.
