Knox Dollar General Robbery Attempt Foiled After Cashier Reports Empty Register
A cashier at the Knox, Indiana Dollar General foiled a robbery attempt Monday by telling the note-wielding suspect there was no money in the register.
A man walked into the Dollar General at 1055 S. SR 23 in Knox just after 8:25 a.m. Monday, handed the cashier a note demanding money from the register, and walked out empty-handed when the cashier told him there was nothing in it. The Starke County Sheriff's Office is now asking the public to help identify the suspect.
The store manager called the Starke County 911 Center to report the incident. According to the manager, the male subject entered the store, passed the demand note to the cashier, and left without obtaining any cash after being told the register was empty. Surveillance footage captured the sequence of events.
After exiting, the suspect got into the back seat of a white sedan that pulled away westbound on State Road 8 toward Knox. No arrests have been made and no injuries were reported.

The Sheriff's Office described the suspect as a Black male with a thin build and short facial hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing light-colored jeans, a black Nike hooded sweatshirt, a green baseball cap, and blue gloves. The Sheriff's Office released suspect photos, adding an updated image at 5:45 p.m. Central Time Monday.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Starke County Sheriff's Department. The investigation remains open.
