Early-morning fire damages Madras McDonald's, crew displaced with no injuries
Two employees arriving for early shifts found smoke at the Madras McDonald’s; firefighters knocked down flames visible at the drive‑thru and no injuries were reported.

Two McDonald’s employees arriving for early shifts discovered smoke coming from the front of the Madras restaurant and called 911, setting off a morning response that stopped flames from spreading beyond damaged sections. The discovery and response occurred the morning of Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, and prompted a coordinated attack by local and state crews.
Jefferson County Fire & EMS responded and reported that firefighters saw flames visible from the drive‑thru window when they arrived. Two employees were the first on scene and alerted emergency services, a detail confirmed by local coverage of the incident.
Jefferson County Fire & EMS described the firefighting tactics used: "Firefighters initiated an interior fire attack through the front entrance of the restaurant. Simultaneously, crews deployed a second hose line to the drive‑thru area to combat the visible flames." Those coordinated interior and exterior hose lines produced an initial knockdown that confined the blaze to limited areas.
After the knockdown, crews shifted to salvage and overhaul in the damaged sections of the restaurant. "Following the initial knockdown, firefighters conducted salvage and overhaul operations in the damaged sections of the restaurant," Jefferson County Fire & EMS said, and "Crews also climbed to the roof to check for potential fire extension, but no spread was found." Local reports noted that the fire was put out and did not extend throughout the structure.
The response included Jefferson County Fire & EMS as the primary agency, with assistance from the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Personnel remained at the McDonald’s "for approximately 2 hours to ensure the scene was secure," according to Jefferson County Fire & EMS, and Madras Pioneer reported that crews were on scene for around two hours.
No injuries were reported among employees or emergency responders. "No injuries were reported among employees or emergency responders during the incident," Jefferson County Fire & EMS stated, and Madras Pioneer likewise noted that "there were no reported injuries."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. "The cause of the fire is currently under investigation," Jefferson County Fire & EMS said, and Madras Pioneer added that "the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the restaurant is temporarily closed." Fire officials have not released a damage estimate for the restaurant.
Investigators from the state and county agencies remain involved and have not provided a timeline for reopening or damage figures. Jefferson County Fire & EMS and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office are the primary agencies handling the scene while the investigation continues.
