The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Happy Meal hit participating McDonald's locations nationwide today, March 26, timed precisely to build hype for the animated film's April 1 theatrical premiere. McDonald's published its Menu Spotter update on March 19 flagging the promotion, positioning the page as what the company calls "your one and only source for updates on the new menu items, returning fan-favorites and limited-time offers making their way to restaurants across the U.S."

Each Happy Meal includes one of 12 unique collectible character toys, each featuring a character from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on a posable clip. The full set spans Mario, Fire Mario, Luigi in his Frog Suit, Princess Peach, Rosalina, Yoshi, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Wonder Bowser Jr., Toad, Birdo, and Yellow Luma. Birdo and Fire Mario are confirmed U.S. exclusives, which gives them an edge over the rest of the set if collector demand builds the way it did for the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie toys.

For crew members handling the rush, the fine print matters. The Menu Spotter notes that fresh beef is available at participating U.S. McDonald's restaurants and explicitly excludes Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. Territories. Each beef patty weighs 4oz before cooking. That "participating restaurants" qualifier, language McDonald's uses across promotions, means workers at franchise locations should confirm with their owner-operators whether the full promotion applies at their store. McDonald's approximately 13,500 U.S. restaurants are ninety-five percent owned and operated by independent business owners, which means the actual rollout experience for crew can vary widely depending on what a specific franchisee has opted into.

Scanning the QR code on the Happy Meal box unlocks a digital adventure featuring Mario's latest journey, with puzzles and games available at HappyMeal.com. Many Happy Meal boxes now include QR codes that unlock interactive virtual games and activities, part of McDonald's broader strategy to deepen engagement through its mobile app.

The Menu Spotter page also surfaced a separate update that directly affects anyone who uses McDonald's digital ordering channels or the company website. McDonald's posted a Terms and Conditions change notice stating that updates have been made to age requirements and the arbitration and dispute resolution process. The notice carries a standard continued-use clause: by using the website, visitors agree to the revised terms. No specific effective date was listed alongside the notice.

McDonald's marked the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 with a similar line of tie-in Happy Meal toys, and that promotion drove meaningful secondary market activity. There's no announced end date for the current promotion beyond "while supplies last," and based on past McDonald's promos of this scale, most locations are expected to carry stock through mid-April, though viral attention can accelerate sell-through fast. For crew on the front line, that means expect the "do you have Frog Luigi?" questions for the next several weeks.
