A masked man entered the McDonald’s on the 200 block of Route 73 in Berlin Township and demanded U.S. currency from employees, keeping his hands in his sweatshirt pocket so staff believed he was armed, authorities said. After receiving cash the suspect fled the restaurant on foot; no firearms were displayed and no injuries were reported.

Officers from the Berlin Township Police Department responded at approximately 6:39 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office press release. The prosecutor’s office identified the suspect as 42-year-old William Alvarado Jr., a West Berlin resident, and said detectives used surveillance footage from multiple locations to follow him from the restaurant to his vehicle and ultimately to his West Berlin residence.

Detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Berlin Township Police Department took Alvarado into custody and the prosecutor’s office charged him with one count of 2nd-degree Robbery. The press release dated February 14, 2026, states that Alvarado was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a future court hearing. Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Berlin Township Police Chief Michael FitzGibbon were named in the announcement.

The incident produced a heavy police presence at the scene that prompted the Berlin Township School District to cancel classes Friday, as both district schools sit about a half-mile from the McDonald’s. Local reporting noted officers and detectives canvassing the area while investigators reviewed surveillance from the restaurant and surrounding locations to corroborate movements from the business to a vehicle and then to the suspect’s home.
