Survios reportedly shutters development team despite Nintendo Switch 2 release plans
Survios reportedly cut most of its development staff even after bringing Alien: Rogue Incursion to Switch 2. For Nintendo workers, it is a warning about narrow platform bets.

A studio can ship a licensed hit to Nintendo Switch 2 and still lose the people who built it. Survios, the VR-focused developer behind Alien: Rogue Incursion and Creed: Rise to Glory, reportedly laid off the majority of its development team, with multiple employees saying on LinkedIn that the company in its current form was effectively being shuttered.
Founded in 2013, Survios spent more than a decade in virtual reality and raised $70.9 million along the way, with investors including Lux Capital and MGM Studios. One company profile said the studio had released nine VR games over roughly that span. The numbers underline a hard reality for developers: a steady output of niche titles does not guarantee a stable business if the market behind them cools or the next phase of growth never fully arrives.

Survios had been trying to widen its footprint beyond VR. Alien: Rogue Incursion - Part One: Evolved Edition launched on PlayStation 5 and PC on September 30, 2025, and the Nintendo Switch 2 version followed on April 21, 2026. Nintendo’s store listing described the game as rebuilt for Switch 2, while the broader rollout also reached Steam, Xbox Series X|S and other console and PC channels. Survios said Alien: Rogue Incursion topped VR sales charts in December 2024, and it previously said Creed: Rise to Glory had sold more than 1 million copies across all platforms as of October 13, 2021.
That is the bigger lesson for developers, producers and publishing staff inside Nintendo’s orbit. Launch success is not the same thing as post-launch stability. A studio can have a recognizable license, a notable sales spike and a new hardware target, yet still be vulnerable if its business model leans too heavily on one platform thesis or one product lane. For teams that work with external partners, especially on licensed or experimental projects, Survios is a reminder to evaluate what happens after release, not just whether the game can ship.
