Trader Joe’s lists second Sarasota store as coming soon with beer and wine

Trader Joe’s has put a second Sarasota store into its public coming-soon pipeline at 8199 S Tamiami Trail, Unit #100, and the location page shows beer and wine among the planned offerings. For crew members, that is more than a new dot on a map: it is the kind of opening that usually means hiring, training and a fresh round of internal movement as the company builds out a second team in the same market.

The store-search page places the Sarasota site in Trader Joe’s Opening Soon section, which the company says typically appears three to six months before a store opens. That timing suggests the South Tamiami Trail project has moved beyond speculation and into the stage where staffing plans, product flow and store setup start to matter. A beer-and-wine listing also signals a more complete operating model, with the added licensing, inventory handling and customer-service training that come with alcohol sales.

The new Sarasota location fits into a broader Florida push. Trader Joe’s has said its site selection is driven by population density, traffic patterns, access and parking, and company marketing executives Tara Miller and Matt Sloan have described the chain’s expansion as controlled growth. That matters inside the store as much as outside it: a second Sarasota location can relieve pressure on the existing crew, but it can also create a wave of interviews, onboarding and cross-training for managers who have to staff a new unit without hollowing out the original one.

Local reporting and public records identified the site as the former Staples near Beneva Road, and construction was already underway there in February. Earlier coverage identified the current Sarasota Trader Joe’s at 4101 S. Tamiami Trail and the Lakewood Ranch store at 8111 Cooper Creek Blvd., making the new South Tamiami Trail address the chain’s third store in the Suncoast region. For current Sarasota crew, that raises the possibility of transfers and advancement into a second store with a different pace, new leaders and, likely, a different customer pattern.

The timing also lands as Trader Joe’s adds nine new locations across the country, including stores in West Palm Beach, Kissimmee and Maitland. In practice, that means Florida is becoming a more active hiring market for the chain, and the Sarasota opening is likely to ripple beyond one neighborhood. For workers, the real story is not just that Trader Joe’s is expanding, but that it is building enough depth in the market to support another team, another schedule grid and another store that will have to live up to the company’s reputation with both customers and crew.
