New Walmart Supercenter Opens in Celina, Texas on April 29
Celina's first-ever Walmart Supercenter opens April 29, with a fuel station two weeks earlier, creating a two-stage hiring window as the city's population has nearly quadrupled since 2020.

Celina's population has nearly quadrupled since the 2020 census, climbing from 17,816 residents to more than 68,000 today, but until now the U.S. Census Bureau's recognized fastest-growing city in the country has had no Walmart of its own. That changes April 29, when the new Shawnee Trail Supercenter opens at the northwest corner of Preston Road and the Collin County Outer Loop, and for Dallas-Fort Worth associates looking to transfer, advance, or pick up hours closer to home, the hiring ramp is already underway.
The opening unfolds in two stages. The on-site fuel station goes live first, on April 15, a full two weeks before the store itself. Associates already working fuel centers at nearby DFW locations should watch careers.walmart.com and the OneWalmart internal jobs board now; fuel center staffing typically fills weeks ahead of a store's first customer.
The Supercenter's feature set goes beyond a standard box. Developers Trademark Property Company and G-Man Development describe it as one of Walmart's most contemporary store formats, built with an updated floor layout, an on-site fulfillment center, and infrastructure to support drone delivery. That fulfillment center is the detail associates in eCommerce roles should focus on: it means dedicated online order pickers, dock and receiving associates, and operations leads whose job functions differ meaningfully from traditional floor positions. Associates with pickup, delivery, or fulfillment experience at other stores have a clear advantage for those slots.
The timeline for anyone planning to apply works roughly like this. Role postings for pre-opening stores typically appear four to eight weeks before grand opening, putting the application window squarely in early April. Interview and onboarding events usually cluster two to four weeks out, with manager and department leader training beginning even earlier. Associates hoping for department manager or assistant manager positions should already be speaking with their store manager or HRBP about a transfer request.
Standard hourly roles across grocery, produce, pharmacy, overnight stocking, and maintenance will make up the bulk of openings. Associates who want to cross-train into fulfillment or tech-enabled positions should ask their HRBP about eCommerce role pathways and whether Live Better U or internal certification programs apply to the new store's fulfillment model.
Shawnee Trail is a 150-acre mixed-use development with its next phase, including restaurants, entertainment venues, office space, and multifamily residential, scheduled to break ground in 2027. Walmart serves as the anchor tenant for the entire project, meaning this store's early staffing sets the operational tone for the broader build-out taking shape around it.
