Walmart completes Canton store remodel, expanding pickup, delivery and services
Walmart finished a major remodel at its Canton store, adding pickup and delivery capacity, updated health services and a new floor layout that will change daily work for associates.

Walmart has finished remodeling its store at 2071 North Main Street in Canton, Illinois, turning the 72,000-square-foot location into a test of how the company wants its stores to work going forward. The store, which opened in 1991, now has expanded pickup and delivery options, improved layouts, interactive displays and upgrades to the pharmacy and vision center.
For associates, that kind of remodel is more than a cosmetic reset. Expanded pickup and delivery usually means more staging space, tighter coordination at handoff points and a bigger focus on order accuracy and timing. A new layout can also shift where customers stop for help, which means department workers spend more time redirecting traffic, answering wayfinding questions and adjusting to new stocking patterns as aisles and fixtures change.
The Canton project is part of a larger Illinois push, with Walmart remodeling 10 stores in the state in 2026. Kewanee is among the other Illinois locations in that program. Nationwide, Walmart said it plans more than 650 scheduled remodels across Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets this year, along with about 20 new store openings in 2026 and early 2027. The company has also said it remains committed to opening or converting more than 150 stores over several years.
Walmart says the updated store model can include wider aisles, eye-catching displays, expanded assortments, digital touchpoints, refreshed interiors and exteriors, and improved parking and landscaping. The pharmacy and vision center changes matter especially for front-line workers because they point to a more service-heavy store, with private consultation rooms and more patient-facing interactions. That often increases handoffs between departments and raises the bar on service expectations even as the store is being used more flexibly for both shopping and fulfillment.
The company has also said some Neighborhood Market remodels are being done through a quicker, four-week rapid process that temporarily closes the main sales floor while pharmacies and fuel stations stay open. Walmart said the broader investment is meant to create both construction jobs and long-term roles in retail, pharmacy and store leadership. In Canton, the message for workers is clear: a remodel is not just a fresh look. It changes how the store moves, how associates move through it and how much of the day is now built around pickup, delivery and service work.
