Walmart says two-thirds of U.S. merchandise is domestically sourced
Walmart says more than two-thirds of U.S. product spend went to items made, grown or assembled in America, a mix that can shape stock, substitutions and prices.

Two-thirds of Walmart U.S. merchandise spend now goes to products suppliers say were made, grown or assembled in the United States, a sourcing mix that shows up on the sales floor in price changes, substitutions and uneven in-stock levels.
Walmart says its U.S. sourcing strategy is built to source as close to the customer as possible in every market where it has stores. The company also says it still buys globally when shoppers want variety, quality and affordability that local suppliers cannot always meet, including items such as mangoes and certain electronics. For associates trying to answer why one aisle is full and another is thin, that mix is part of the story.
The company said in FY2024 that more than two-thirds of Walmart U.S. total product spend was on items suppliers reported were made, grown or assembled in the United States. Walmart has set a goal of sourcing an additional $350 billion in U.S. products by the end of 2031, building on a $250 billion commitment launched in 2013 that it says was met ahead of schedule. Walmart says that newer pledge could support more than 750,000 U.S. jobs, based on Boston Consulting Group estimates.

For store teams, the sourcing numbers matter because they affect what arrives, when it arrives and how reliably it can be replenished. Walmart says its supplier network is designed to help insulate the supply chain from disruption, a priority that matters most in categories like dairy, food and essentials where a delayed truck can quickly turn into customer complaints and extra work for associates on the floor.
Walmart has also tried to make that supplier pipeline more visible through Open Call, its largest sourcing event. At the 2025 event, more than 100 entrepreneurs won Golden Tickets and more than 500 entrepreneurs attended from 47 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Walmart says over 60% of its U.S. suppliers are small businesses, and that since 2021 it has sourced an incremental $176 billion in goods made, assembled or grown in the United States.

The sourcing picture changes by market. Walmart says 93% of merchandise sold in Walmart Mexico is made, grown or assembled domestically, while its U.S. business continues to balance domestic production with imported goods. Walmart also says its Responsible Sourcing Academy trains suppliers on forced labor, health and safety and supply chain controls, underscoring that shelf availability is tied not just to trucks and warehouses, but to the standards and supplier relationships behind them.
