Walmart Supercenter on Loop 1604 Adding In-Store Dunkin' Donuts Feb-May

A Walmart Supercenter on Loop 1604 in north San Antonio is set to install an in-store Dunkin' Donuts, a change that could shift daily operations for store associates during construction and after the unit opens. The remodel is scheduled to begin in February 2026 and reach planned completion around late May 2026, with an estimated construction budget of roughly $215,000.

The new Dunkin' unit will operate as a full-menu location offering hot and iced coffee, espresso drinks, donuts and breakfast sandwiches. The installation continues Walmart's broader approach of leasing in-store spaces to third-party foodservice operators to expand customer amenities and convenience within its Supercenters.

For frontline workers, the project means more than a new food option for shoppers. Buildout activity typically requires contractors working inside the store footprint, temporary closures or reconfigurations of aisles and common areas, and additional coordination from management and overnight teams. Store associates may see schedule adjustments, temporary reassignments to cover affected departments and requests for extra help during peak construction periods. The project is also expected to add leased-unit employees who will work alongside Walmart associates once the Dunkin' opens.

Because Dunkin' locations in Walmart operate as separately leased units, staff for the coffee and breakfast operation will report to their own management rather than store management. That arrangement can reduce direct payroll impacts on Walmart while creating interactions that require new coordination on shared spaces, waste management, and customer service flow. Managers typically handle those logistics through updated shift schedules, signage and temporary traffic patterns to minimize disruption to core grocery and retail operations.

Associate safety and scheduling clarity will be essential during the next few months. Store leadership usually issues guidance on parking, delivery times for contractors, and any temporary changes to associate entrances or break areas; associates should watch internal communications for exact instructions and potential extra-hour opportunities tied to the remodel. The addition of a national coffee brand inside the store is likely to bring more grab-and-go traffic, which could alter peak-period staffing needs in deli, bakery and front-end zones.

As construction begins in February, associates and shoppers can expect incremental updates from store leadership about access, timing and any temporary service impacts. When the leased Dunkin' opens in late May, the store will operate with an additional commercial partner on site, changing the staffing mix and day-to-day coordination inside the Supercenter.
