Scruffs launched its 2026 workwear and safety footwear collection on April 8, with five key pieces that speak directly to how job site dressing has shifted: fitted female-specific silhouettes, recycled materials in safety footwear, and cotton-rich layering pieces that read as naturally on a commute as on a construction site.

The women's additions are the most significant step forward. The Harbour Fleece, a lightweight microfleece with a high funnel neck and dropped hem, delivers the kind of fitted silhouette that female tradespeople have long had to improvise from men's ranges. Its proportions, the elongated hem anchored by that close-collar funnel neck, mirror the functional-chic geometry that has made similar styles from outdoor brands so commercially successful. The Women's Tamworth Hoodie follows the same logic: cotton-rich construction, a kangaroo pocket, and an adjustable hood cut for the female form rather than scaled down from a male template.

On the footwear side, the Telford Safety Trainer is the collection's most conscientious piece. Its recycled suede uppers address a growing demand for sustainable materials in PPE, while a composite midplate and steel toe cap earn it an EN20345 SBP rating, the European standard governing basic safety footwear. The Switchback 3 Safety Boot gets a new Stone colorway, a quieter and more versatile tone than the high-visibility palette that dominates most safety footwear, and one that transitions far more naturally into off-site wear. The Fintry Sweatshirt anchors the soft goods lineup: cotton-rich, breathable, and built for layering across the variable conditions a full site day demands.

"The workwear sector is more relevant than ever," said Harry Wager, Scruffs' Product Development Manager. "As the market continues to grow through 2026 and durable apparel gains traction beyond job sites, our new collection is designed to meet the needs of tradespeople while also appealing to a broader audience seeking versatile, everyday workwear."

That broader appeal is increasingly grounded in reality rather than aspiration. Utility silhouettes, rugged boots, and heavyweight fleeces have migrated from site essentials to street staples over the past two years, and brands certified to EN safety standards are finding unexpected traction in lifestyle retail. The Stone Switchback 3 and the Telford's clean trainer profile both look credible beyond the site gate in a way that traditional safety footwear rarely managed.

The 2026 collection's deeper signal, though, is what the Harbour Fleece and Tamworth Hoodie represent for the industry: a serious investment in female-specific workwear that doesn't ask women to disappear into men's sizing. That gap has been obvious for years. It's about time the product development caught up.
