Minot's Roosevelt Park Pool, Pickleball Courts Set to Reopen in June 2026

After a 2025 summer that left Roosevelt Park's pool and courts dark, the Minot Park District announced a targeted return date: June 5, 2026, for both the pool and the pickleball courts that went offline as Mouse River flood mitigation construction swept through the site.

The closure was never a simple maintenance story. The Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project's MI-7 phase pushed directly through Roosevelt Park, and the Park District used the disruption to address something deferred since the 2011 flood: a filtration system already more than 30 years old when construction began. Workers installed a new system during fall 2025, but it still needs to pass testing before the facility opens. Park staff plan to begin that process as soon as weather cooperates.

"We are dedicated to providing quality of life for our citizens, and we know the Roosevelt Park Pool is a big part of that," said Elly DesLauriers, executive director of the Minot Park District. "Our staff is working diligently to make sure the facility and staff are ready to welcome visitors on our targeted opening day of June 5."

For pickleball players, the 2025 season carried an extra complication. When flood mitigation construction began, the pickleball courts initially remained accessible through summer while the pool was closed. But starting September 8, the pickleball courts and park entrance were no longer open to the public as the MI-7 construction entered its fall phase, with crews building levee sections, flood wall panels, and footings inside the park perimeter. The courts have been offline since.

That combined absence, from pool programming and court access through fall 2025 and into spring 2026, pushed local players to find alternatives for drop-in sessions and league scheduling. The June 5 date gives community organizers a concrete window to plan clinics and open play around.

DesLauriers acknowledged the toll of last year directly: "We understand the summer of 2025 was disappointing without the pool."

Not everything at Roosevelt Park returns on June 5. The skate park remains closed due to its proximity to active construction, sidelined on a longer timeline. The Park District said it will release updated parking maps and details on playground and park area access as restoration work continues.

The pool's previous filtration system was more than 30 years old and was never replaced after the 2011 flood. That the same infrastructure push that finally levied enough disruption to force out the aging equipment also set the stage for a stronger reopening is one of the quieter ironies of the whole flood protection undertaking. When the pool opens June 5, it will do so with equipment that was never going to last another Minot summer.
