Mago Maga launched the Roma-X AI home coffee roaster on Kickstarter, pitching it to home brewers who want more control over roast development without moving into a full commercial setup. The machine is a third-generation model with a 300-gram capacity, putting it in the range many serious home roasters already target for weekly batches.

The real question is whether the AI label changes the home-roasting game or just dresses up familiar automation. Mago Maga is positioning Roma-X as a smart home roaster for specialty coffee lovers, and the company’s pitch suggests the machine is meant to guide users through the parts of roasting that usually take the longest to learn: reading a roast curve, avoiding underdevelopment and keeping heat application even enough to prevent tipping or uneven results.

That kind of promise matters because home roasting has always been a trade-off. Buying roasted beans is easier, but roasting at home can unlock fresher coffee and more control over origin character, development time and flavor. The catch is the learning curve, and that is where a machine like Roma-X has to prove itself. A 300-gram batch size is practical for espresso drinkers and pour-over users who want to roast small amounts regularly, but it also means the machine will be judged on consistency more than novelty.

The price will shape that judgment too. Mago Maga’s site lists a promotional price of $769 and a retail price of $1,598, with a $10 deposit or upgrade option. That puts Roma-X squarely in premium-gadget territory, not impulse-buy territory, and makes the Kickstarter launch as much about early adoption as about demand validation. For buyers, the math is simple: the machine has to justify itself against buying roasted coffee week after week, or against other home roasters already built around automation and smaller batch workflow.

The launch also fits Mago Maga’s existing line. Daily Coffee News reported in May 2026 that Roma-X was the company’s third-generation AI home coffee roaster, and earlier coverage in January 2025 described the Roma Pro as automating up to 300 grams. Roma-X looks like the next step in that progression, not a one-off experiment. Mago Maga has also been promoting the machine online as its next-generation ROMA-X Smart Roaster, signaling that the company wants to build a community around the product before the campaign fully unfolds.

For home roasters, that leaves the same practical test that matters every time a new machine lands: whether the automation makes roast profiles easier to dial in, or whether the AI language is doing the heavy lifting while the cup still has to prove the point.
