Designer Releases Ruby the Horse, Her Eighth Lunar New Year Zodiac Amigurumi Pattern
Abby of Ollie + Holly released Ruby the Horse, her eighth zodiac amigurumi and the first in the series celebrating her own birth year.

Eight patterns into her annual Lunar New Year zodiac series, Abby of Ollie + Holly finally reached her own sign. Ruby the Horse, released April 2, is the designer's Year of the Horse amigurumi, and Abby described the 2026 release as "extra special" precisely because the horse is her personal zodiac.
The finished piece stands roughly 13.5 cm (5.25 in) tall, putting it squarely in the compact collectible range that makes zodiac amigurumi so giftable. Construction is rated intermediate: the snout, hair, arms, and ears are all sewn-on components, so expect assembly work in addition to the crochet itself. The 12-page PDF includes a notes-and-guides section, multiple process photos, and links to video tutorials aimed at makers who hit snags on shaping and assembly.
Abby tested Ruby using Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, breaking down the yardage with the kind of precision that saves you a mid-project yarn run: approximately 15g of Coffee Bean, 20g of Soft Fudge, and 20g of Red Wine form the bulk of the piece, with small amounts of Light Caramel and Mustard Yellow for accent details. She flags that the Cotton Aran can split slightly and recommends matching hook size to the yarn weight you choose to keep stitch definition clean, a useful heads-up if you plan to substitute.
The pattern is written in US crochet terminology and is available as a PDF purchase directly from the Ollie + Holly shop. For collectors already working through Abby's zodiac lineup, the post links back to her earlier Lunar New Year designs, making it easy to fill gaps in the set. Seven patterns in before this one, Ruby marks a full two-thirds of the twelve-sign cycle complete.
