Avantris Announces Neon Odyssey 1,400-Plus-Page Neon-Soaked 5E Trilogy, Kickstarter May 2026
Avantris Entertainment revealed Neon Odyssey, a 1,400+ page, three-book D&D 5E space‑opera set for a Kickstarter launch in May 2026.

Avantris Entertainment announced Neon Odyssey, billed as a Legends of Avantris: Neon Odyssey trilogy for Dungeons & Dragons 5E (2024 rules) that will span more than 1,400 pages and head to Kickstarter in May 2026. The announcement, published across outlets on February 26, 2026, presents the project as a large-scale follow-up to Avantris' record-setting Crooked Moon Kickstarter, which raised over $4 million.
The product is a three-book campaign and supplement set presented with GamingTrend’s taglines: “Outrunner’s Handbook - The Character Book! Everything you need to begin your cosmic journey including space combat rules, reimagined classes, subclasses, species, backgrounds, spells, and more.” The second volume is “Cosmic Codex - The Setting Book! The whole Stardust Rhapsody campaign setting at your fingertips including monsters, missions, worlds, realms, magic items, and more.” The third is “Overdrive Expansion - The Expansion Book! Even more of what’s above to fill out an entire galaxy, plus optional and advanced systems like professions, racing, stress & entertainment, ship upgrades, and more.” The Popverse coverage names the campaign setting as Stardust Rhapsody and states the Overdrive Expansion is “already complete.”
Mechanically, Neon Odyssey promises a deep mechanical rework rather than a simple reskin. Polygon reported that the project will “reimagining all the core 5e classes with full sci‑fi class skins, plus adding a new one, the Machinist,” described as “an engineer and inventor of mechanical marvels with the power of technomancy.” Polygon further lists numeric scope estimates: more than 40 subclasses, 30 species, and 300 alien monsters and vehicles. Space combat rules are explicitly called out in the Outrunner’s Handbook as part of character and vehicle play.
Play examples and crunchy systems land alongside those class changes. TechRaptor describes typical Neon Odyssey sessions with players operating as bounty hunters exploring planets and space stations, taking jobs that target people, robots, and data to earn credits for ship and gear upgrades. TechRaptor also frames the setting as modular and plug-and-play, supporting one-shots through years-long campaigns, and characterizes the design as “fantasy-forward,” arguing Neon Odyssey “prioritizes optimism, adventure, and stylish presentation over hard sci‑fi rules or attempts at real world physics. The focus is more on fun and atmosphere than simulation.” The Overdrive Expansion’s optional and advanced systems, professions, racing, stress and entertainment, ship upgrades, are intended to expand those campaign economies and cinematic beats.

Stylistically, Avantris leans hard into retro synthwave and space-opera nostalgia. Multiple outlets quote the project line that it’s “Star Wars meets Cowboy Bebop with a coat of Synthwave paint!” GamingTrend calls the trilogy “neon-soaked science fantasy space opera” channeling the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s and positions Neon Odyssey as a character-driven, cinematic 5E option.
Avantris is positioning Neon Odyssey as a major crowdfunding push following The Crooked Moon’s success; GamingTrend, Bleeding Cool, and other outlets all point to a May 2026 Kickstarter window. Popverse also flags a trailer accompanying the announcement. With a promised 1,400+ pages, reskinned classes, a named new Machinist class, and systems intended to move play toward bounty-hunting, racing, and ship upgrades, Neon Odyssey aims to deliver a synthwave-flavored, campaign-ready galaxy when its Kickstarter launches in May 2026.
