Advance Convoy Mod Gives GTA Motorcades a Real Lead Vehicle
Advance Convoy 1.1.0 finally gives GTA V motorcades a true lead car, turning convoy chaos into something closer to a real VIP escort.

Advance Convoy gives the convoy a brain, not just a leash
Most GTA V convoy mods fall apart for the same reason: you end up doing all the driving while the escorts behave like glued-on followers. Advance Convoy 1.1.0 takes that pain point head-on with a lead vehicle that actually navigates the route, sets the pace, and clears the way ahead of the VIP transport. The result is a motorcade that feels less like a parade stuck to your bumper and more like a protected movement through Los Santos.
That shift matters more than it sounds like. A convoy stops feeling fake the moment the front car stops acting like dead weight, and that is where Blue Fire’s script starts to separate itself from the usual follower-AI experiments. GTA5-Mods.com currently lists the 1.1.0 build with 464 downloads, a 33 KB file size, and 31 likes, which is a strong sign that players are noticing the difference fast.
What the free version actually lets you do
The free core is not some stripped teaser. It can deploy up to six escorts total, with as many as three lead cars and three rear vehicles, and the convoy AI actively paces itself around the player’s position. That means the formation can breathe a little instead of collapsing into a mechanical tail of cars trying to sit on the same line.
The other useful detail is what happens when the convoy stops. Guards can instantly form a 360-degree defensive setup, which is a huge upgrade for anyone who likes to stage pauses, checkpoints, or protected handoffs. Instead of everybody bunching up and waiting to be clipped by traffic or confused by a bad stop, the mod gives the scene a sense of discipline.
The on-the-fly controls also make a real difference in play. You can adjust speed, driving mode, and behavior from the menu without rebuilding the whole setup, and you can either turn your current vehicle into the VIP transport or spawn a fresh one. That flexibility makes it practical for two very different styles: roleplay sessions where you want the convoy to feel ceremonial, and cinematic drives where you want the camera-friendly movement without constant babysitting.
Why the lead vehicle changes the mission feel
The lead car is the part that turns this from a neat script into something worth keeping installed. In most convoy mods, the player is still the traffic controller, the pace car, and the cleanup crew. Here, the route is handled more like a proper escort, which means you can focus on positioning, threat awareness, and the overall scene instead of constantly compensating for broken escort behavior.
That makes Advance Convoy especially attractive if you care about tactical movement. If you like protected transport, cartel runs, dignitary movements, or police-style motorcades, the mod gives you a better foundation for all of it. The AI’s pacing around the player’s position keeps the formation from feeling rigid, and the defensive behavior on stop helps the whole thing feel closer to a unit than a bunch of cars following a waypoint.
It is also the kind of mod that changes the pace of ordinary GTA V driving in a small but meaningful way. A convoy that can actually lead itself lets you stage longer runs through Los Santos without feeling like you are manually herding cats. For players who want the road to feel managed instead of chaotic, that alone is the difference between a one-time demo and a permanent slot on the mod list.

The premium roadmap shows where this project is headed
The full version is still a work in progress on Patreon, but the planned feature set makes the ambition obvious. Blue Fire is not just adding cosmetic extras. The roadmap includes a rewritten convoy AI with more realistic cornering, a President Mode suite that can clear traffic and barricade intersections ahead of the route, and a signal jammer radius for more controlled movement.
There is more on the way too: extra emergency vehicles, dedicated traffic clearers, auto or manual parking, VIP leaving protocols, advanced tactical orders like evasive maneuvers and ramming, support for custom add-on vehicles and peds, and hotkey control so you do not have to keep opening the menu. Taken together, that reads like a framework for full escort scenarios, not just a single mission toy.
That is why the mod has a wider appeal than a basic convoy script. It is built for the kind of players who want the road to behave like part of the scene. Presidential fantasy runs, cartel processions, security detail roleplay, and protected VIP exits all benefit from the same thing: escort AI that does not need constant rescue.
How it compares to older convoy mods
The best comparison point is the older Working presidential convoy with closed roads project from 2018. That mod already pushed into scripted escort territory, with air support, closed-road behavior, and a convoy that could be spawned and triggered through Menyoo. It was a fun setup, but it was still a manual event more than a living escort system.
Advance Convoy’s big step forward is the lead-car routing. Instead of just spawning a scene and telling the player to manage it, the new mod tries to make the motorcade operate like it knows where it is going. That is a much more modern answer to the same GTA V fantasy, and it is exactly why the update stands out in a niche that has been waiting for smarter escort logic.
Early reaction says the foundation is there
The first official free release landed on March 19, 2026, and Blue Fire says building complex AI logic for GTA takes hundreds of hours. That lines up with the feel of the mod so far: it is clearly the start of something larger, not a throwaway script. One GTA5-Mods user, Rafiq28, summed up the early impression as “nice as a 1st version,” then asked for more free-version updates and new features.
That is probably the fairest read on Advance Convoy 1.1.0 right now. It is already good enough to matter if you want hands-off motorcades in GTA V, and it is promising enough to justify watching the free version grow. If your convoy setup has been collapsing because the escort AI could not keep its job, this is one of the rare recent releases that actually attacks the problem instead of decorating it.
