If TheGhostOfHope is right, you'll want to think twice before burning through GTA 6's story mode in a weekend. The leaker known for getting Activision's legal team involved is claiming Rockstar plans to roll out GTA 6 Online within one month of the base game's November 19, 2026 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, which would put the multiplayer component in players' hands by mid-to-late December 2026.

"Up to you guys if you wanna believe me on this or not, but hearing from someone that the current plan for GTA 6 is to launch online within a month after the release of the game," TheGhostOfHope posted on X. The credibility question is harder to dismiss than with most leakers. Activision issued a cease-and-desist demanding TheGhostOfHope stop reporting on inside Call of Duty information, a legal escalation that tends to happen when someone actually knows something. Destructoid has described them as one of the most reliable industry sources on social media.

Rockstar's own history backs the one-month timeline up. GTA Online launched October 1, 2013, just two weeks after GTA V shipped on September 17 of that year. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a near-identical schedule: the Red Dead Online beta opened November 27, 2018 for Ultimate Edition owners and November 30, 2018 for everyone else, roughly 32 to 35 days after the base game's October 26 release. Both precedents land well within the window TheGhostOfHope is describing.

The 2013 GTA Online rollout is worth keeping in mind as a blueprint for what can go wrong. Severe server crashes, connection failures, and progress loss plagued launch day, forcing Rockstar to push a technical patch just four days later on October 5. A December 2026 Online launch, coinciding with holiday traffic spikes, could strain servers even harder than the two-week window did in 2013.

For planning purposes, the clearest takeaway is not to treat story mode as a speed run. If Online arrives within a month, rushing through the Vice City campaign to get to multiplayer means potentially sacrificing the single-player experience that Rockstar's full marketing push, expected to ramp up in Summer 2026, will almost certainly be built around. Story missions in GTA V became largely irrelevant for a huge chunk of players once GTA Online took over, and that dynamic could accelerate even faster this time given how much stronger the Online hype cycle has become.

What remains unknown is substantial. Rockstar has made no official statement about GTA 6 Online's launch timing, structure, or feature set at release. PC players face an even longer wait, with a GTA 6 PC release widely expected no earlier than late 2027. And with Take-Two's stock having already dropped up to 18% on the second delay announcement alone, the commercial pressure to get GTA 6 Online generating Shark Card revenue as quickly as possible is not a background consideration; it is the entire business model.
