Gigantic Brewing’s Adult Prom turns Portland taproom into jungle dance party
Gigantic Brewing is betting $5 prom nights can do what a beer release can’t: turn a Portland taproom into a loyalty machine.

Gigantic Brewing is turning its Southeast Portland taproom into a jungle-themed prom on Saturday, May 2, a $5, 21-and-over night that shows how breweries now compete as event venues as much as places to pour beer. Welcome To The Jungle runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at the brewery’s original 21+ spot at 5224 SE 26th Ave, and it comes back after last year’s Adult Prom sold out.
The format is built for participation, not passive drinking. Gigantic is leaning into jungle glam, tropical formal, neon chaos and vintage prom royalty, then layering on DJ Love, a photo booth, prizes for best dressed and a Prom Court. That combination gives the night a clear visual identity and a social-media-friendly payoff, while keeping the cover charge low enough to feel spontaneous rather than premium-priced. For a brewery in a city with more than 80 breweries, that kind of programming matters.

Gigantic’s playbook makes sense because the taproom itself already carries the right kind of energy. The company calls itself a small craft brewery in Portland, Oregon, founded in 2012 by Ben Love and Van Havig. Its Southeast taproom is strictly 21+, while the Robot Room at 6935 NE Glisan is all ages welcome. That split lets Gigantic use the original taproom for adults-only spectacle without confusing the rest of its customer base.
The Adult Prom format also gives the brewery something that a standard trivia night or beer release cannot: a reason for people to show up dressed for a story. The first one, Enchantment Under the Sea, ran on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 7 to 11 p.m. and sold out. That is the kind of result taproom operators notice, because a packed room does more than move pints. It creates regulars, drives word of mouth and makes the brewery feel like a place worth planning around.

That matters even more in a maturing craft market. The Brewers Association said U.S. craft brewers produced 23.1 million barrels in 2024, down 4.0% from 2023, while craft’s market share held at 13.3%. In that environment, breweries are under pressure to make each visit feel distinct. Gigantic’s prom night is a good example of the answer: not bigger beer, but better reasons to leave the house.
