Plunge Buddy LLC Recalls DIY Sauna Heater Kits Over Overheating Risk
Plunge Buddy LLC's DIY sauna heater kits, sold for $400-$500, are being recalled after 12 overheating reports across the U.S. and Canada.

Plunge Buddy LLC, the North Mankato, Minnesota company behind the DIY Cold Plunge brand, recalled its DIY Sauna Heater Kits on March 26 after 12 confirmed overheating reports across the United States and Canada raised serious fire concerns.
The hazard is direct: "Electrical conductors within the sauna heater kits can overheat, posing a fire hazard and risk of serious injury or death." The recall is a joint action between the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Health Canada, and the company.
The kits sold online at diycoldplunge.com from March 2025 through February 2026 for between $400 and $500. About 675 units were sold in the U.S., with an additional 14 sold in Canada.
The kit assembles a four-heat-lamp heating fixture inside a stainless steel cage measuring 12 inches tall, 12 inches wide, and 8 inches deep, weighing roughly 16 pounds. The package includes four ceramic bulb sockets, three wire connectors, two ground pigtails, and a three-prong power cord. Heat-lamp bulbs and the accompanying sauna enclosure carpentry plans are sold separately; the heater is designed to bolt onto a customer-built wood frame.
As of March 18, 2026, the company had received one report of overheating in Canada and 11 reports in the United States, with no injuries reported in either country.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled DIY Sauna Heater Kits and register on the DIY Cold Plunge website for a full refund. The company is offering a full refund of the purchase price. Consumers will be asked to submit written and photo proof that the product has been destroyed or disposed of, or request a prepaid shipping label to return the product. The company's recall page states that after submitting a registration, they will respond within 48 to 72 hours, and instructs owners to register using the same email address used for the original order.
