Magic presents God of Mischief pits three heroes against Loki in Commander

Magic Presents: God of Mischief turns Commander night into a boss fight. Instead of a normal free-for-all pod, one player takes the Loki seat and faces three hero players in a three-versus-one setup built around special advantages called Loki’s Tricks. That asymmetrical structure changes everything at the table: target priority becomes a team conversation, the villain pilot gets to lean into mischief, and the whole event feels built for a cinematic Marvel showdown rather than a routine Commander league.

That matters because the event is not just a novelty tucked into the calendar. Wizards Play Network stores are set to run Magic Presents: God of Mischief from July 17 through July 23, 2026, as part of the Marvel Super Heroes season. Wizards says all participants will receive a promo card regardless of match results, which gives the event a clear play value even for stores that are selling the experience as a one-night spectacle. For Marvel fans, that mix of story-first gameplay and guaranteed promo support is the main draw: show up, pick a side, and play a game that feels more like a multiplayer skirmish than a standard Commander pod.

The timing around the launch window makes the event easy to place on the calendar. Scheduling for Marvel Super Heroes opened March 30, marketing kit delivery ran April 23, the Prerelease runs June 19 through June 25, and Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes releases June 26, 2026. That puts God of Mischief in the middle of a packed season, after the main set has landed and while stores are still carrying Marvel momentum from the prerelease rush.

Wizards is also using several event types to make the set approachable for different kinds of players. Avengers Academy runs June 12 through June 18 in the United States and Canada with Marvel-themed Welcome Decks built around Black Panther, Iron Man, Black Widow, Spider-Man, and the Hulk. Commander Party follows with casual games and a twist on July 3 through July 9, then again July 31 through August 6. Wizards later canceled Marvel Super Heroes: The Final Battle because of scheduling and production challenges, leaving God of Mischief as one of the launch season’s signature in-store events.
