Indian Super Gaming League has put its weight behind Indian contenders for the 2026 Asian Games esports race, and that matters because the field in Japan is bigger than ever. The Olympic Council of Asia has confirmed 11 medal events for Aichi-Nagoya, with esports set for September 19 to October 4, 2026 at Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture.

For mobile players, the headline is the title mix. The confirmed lineup includes Pokémon Unite, Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile - Asian Games Version, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Identity V: Asian Games Version and the eFootball Series, alongside non-mobile staples such as League of Legends, Naraka: Bladepoint, Gran Turismo 7, Puyo Puyo Champions and a Competitive Martial Arts event covering Street Fighter, Tekken and King of Fighter series. ISGL is backing Indian winners across 10 of those titles, giving the country’s best shots a cleaner runway into a tournament that now looks far more useful for India than the seven-title Hangzhou 2023 edition.

That expansion is the real story. Esports first showed up at Jakarta-Palembang in 2018 as a demonstration sport, then became a full medal sport at Hangzhou 2023. India competed in only four esports titles there, which is why the jump to 11 medal events feels less like a cosmetic increase and more like a genuine opening for Indian rosters that have been boxed out by thin qualification pathways before.

ISGL is trying to build the kind of domestic structure Indian esports has lacked. Organized by LetsGameNow, it has been pitched as India’s first franchise-based national esports competition, built on permanent team ownership and a season-based format. Launch plans called for eight teams across five games, with founders Santanu Basu and Gautam Badalia fronting the project alongside Andhra Pradesh Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, Ranbir Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan at the launch.

The timing is smart because Indian results have already shown there is something to work with. India won silver in Tekken 8 at the BRICS Esports Championship and bronze in eFootball at the Asian Esports Games 2024, two results that make the Asian Games backing look less like hype and more like a bet on players who can already podium when the bracket is right. Animesh Agarwal, the S8UL co-founder, called the 11-title expansion a major leap forward for the Indian gaming ecosystem, and that is the right read: this is a meaningful step for visibility and preparation, but medal hopes will still come down to whether Indian players turn that bigger stage into real, repeatable practice.
