PlayStation opens pre-registration for Ratchet & Clank mobile hero shooter

PlayStation has opened pre-registration for Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, a free-to-play mobile arena shooter built around multiplayer PvP battles on iOS and Android. The pitch is clear: this is not a simple port, but a hero-shooter swing at one of PlayStation’s most recognizable action brands, with launch-day rewards tied to how many players sign up.

The gameplay details put the series’ usual hop-and-blast energy front and center. In the reveal trailer, Rangers fight inside Captain Qwark’s simulation, where they jump, dash, grind, collect bolts, and chase different modes as they try to become the next Galactic Ranger. The game is being developed by Oh BiBi in collaboration with Insomniac Games, a pairing that gives the mobile project some real franchise weight instead of the usual licensing afterthought.

PlayStation’s own messaging leans hard on spectacle and community momentum. The official Ranger Rumble site says the game is now available in select countries and tells players to join Captain Qwark’s rumble soon. It also frames pre-registration as a group effort, saying, “THE MORE PRE-REGISTRATIONS THE MORE QWARTASTIC REWARDS,” with exclusive community rewards set to unlock for launch day. A PlayStation post on X says the game is “gearing up for its global mobile launch” and points players to full gameplay details and pre-registration information.

Google Play adds the practical details that shooter fans will care about before they tap install. The listing calls it a “stunning, fast-paced free to play mobile arena shooter packed with explosive weapons and larger-than-life action.” It also rates the game Everyone 10+, flags fantasy violence, and notes in-game purchases, including random items. That makes the economy around the game part of the equation from day one, especially for players who want to know whether the loadout chase will feel fair or gacha-adjacent.

The rollout has already begun in France, where the official Ranger Rumble blog says French players can now play on iOS and Android devices, and the same blog says the official Discord is open. That early-country release suggests PlayStation is testing the waters before the wider push, even as it sells the launch as a global one.

For Ratchet & Clank, the move is a notable shift from console flagship to mobile arena battler. The series last hit PS4 with Ratchet & Clank in 2016 and returned with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5 in 2021. Ranger Rumble now has to prove that the appeal runs deeper than the name on the box, because mobile shooter players will judge it by movement, weapons, and moment-to-moment chaos, not by nostalgia alone.
