Deluxe Materials unveils new decal and finishing products for 2026
Deluxe Materials targeted the messiest bench jobs with new decal, matt finish and bonding products, led by Sure-Set and Soft-Set for silvering control.

Silvering on waterslide decals, glossy repaint finishes and weak bonds on printed parts are the exact headaches Deluxe Materials went after in its latest 2026 line. The company’s new release, announced through Gaugemaster on April 16, named five items built around those problem jobs: Decal Sure-Set BD86, Decal Soft-Set BD87, Matt Magic BD88, 3D Weld AD94 and Fray Stay AD30.
The two decal products are the most immediately useful for rolling stock and locomotives. Deluxe Materials says Decal Sure-Set is applied before the transfer goes down, where it breaks surface tension and helps reduce silvering. Decal Soft-Set then takes over, softening waterslide decals so they settle over panel lines, rivets and raised textures. That matters on loco cab sides, boiler bands, freight wagon doors and any curved tank or tender where a flat decal can fight the surface and leave a visible edge.
Matt Magic looks aimed at the other end of the finishing process. Retail copy describes it as a dead-matt coating that gives a flat finish in one coat, while staying water-based, odour-free and compatible with enamel, acrylic and lacquer paints. For weathered boxcars, road-worn diesels and scenic structures that should not read as plastic or shiny, that kind of finish can make the difference between a model that looks painted and one that looks convincing.

3D Weld speaks to the way many workbenches now mix printed parts with traditional kits and ready-to-run models. Rails of Sheffield describes it as a solvent-based adhesive for PLA, PLA+, ABS, PETG and ASA, designed to create strong, non-brittle welded bonds. That makes it a practical answer for platform furniture, detail inserts, replacement parts and custom items that need more than a generic glue joint.
Fray Stay rounds out the package and is not actually new to the catalogue. Deluxe Materials lists it as an existing 50ml product, code AD30, priced at £9.50 including VAT, aimed at stopping fraying in fine fabrics used for miniature scenes. The company’s base address is 11 High Street, Osbournby, Sleaford, Lincolnshire NG34 0DN, United Kingdom. Gaugemaster describes Deluxe Materials as a UK-based manufacturer of adhesives and scenic products established in 2010, while another retailer history note traces the firm back to 1973 and to John and Vivienne Bristow, both modellers and chemists. For 2026 projects, this looks less like a flashy launch than a toolkit for cleaner builds, sharper decals and more believable finishes.
