About 12,000 model-railway enthusiasts, families and hobbyists packed the Maimarkthalle in Mannheim over three days as FASZINATION MODELLBAHN 2026, the annual trade fair produced by Messe Sinsheim, wrapped up its March 6–8 run.

The event drew the industry's heavyweights under one roof. Märklin presented its LGB and Trix ranges, Modelleisenbahn GmbH brought ROCO and Fleischmann, and Viessmann showcased products under the kibri and Vollmer banners. Herpa also exhibited, alongside a contingent of small-series manufacturers that the organizers' January press release described as "many interesting" but did not individually name. All were on hand at what the press release billed as a weekend of "brand diversity and new product launches," with exhibitors promising "latest innovations, new models and digital features at spacious stands – often for the first time in front of an audience."

The cross-border reach of the attendance was a recurring theme in Messe Sinsheim's messaging. "Model railway fans from all over Europe get together to check out the latest stuff, chat, be amazed and join in," the organizers wrote ahead of the show. Unique model railway layouts sourced from across Europe formed a centrepiece of the exhibition floor, giving club builders and private modellers a platform alongside the major commercial stands.

Messe Sinsheim positioned the fair as more than a product showcase. "The trade fair is therefore not only a showcase for the industry, but also a place where manufacturers and their customers can meet – in person, directly and on equal terms," the January 19 press release stated. That framing placed the Maimarkthalle weekend squarely in the tradition of shows where a Märklin locomotive can sit inches from the person who will eventually run it around a basement layout.

The programme covered Model Railroad, Steam Modelling and Model Railroad Accessories as its headline topics. Visitor resources on the event site included Hall Plans and Travel, a Visitor Programme and the full Exhibitor List, while non-commercial participants had their own dedicated information section alongside exhibitors.

Messe Sinsheim is also behind the separate Faszination Modellbau fair, now in its 24th edition, scheduled for October 30 to November 1, 2026 at Messe Friedrichshafen. That event, which the organizer launched in 2002, expands the scope to flight, car, ship, truck and military modelling alongside the model-railway content. Programme highlights confirmed for Friedrichshafen include the Neckarpiraten's "Shipyard for Kids," a Big Scale 1:6-ship-modelling regatta in Hall A5, and the German Open RC-Car Masters 2026 at Lake Constance. Organizers have also issued an open call for detailed model-railway layouts to appear at the international Modellbahn-Ausstellung component of the Friedrichshafen fair.
