Caitlin Clark was named the NBA 2K27 Deluxe Edition cover athlete, making her the first WNBA player to land her own global premium NBA 2K cover. The reveal puts the Indiana Fever guard at the center of 2K’s annual launch cycle, but the bigger test for players is whether that milestone turns into real WNBA-side investment inside the game, not just a prettier box.

2K also unveiled Victor Wembanyama as the Standard Edition cover athlete and Derrick Rose as the Ultra Edition face of NBA 2K27. The company said the official gameplay trailer will drop on July 28, giving players their first look at how much of the league’s presentation, mode support and on-court detail survives the jump from marketing splash to actual gameplay.

The timing matters because Clark’s cover arrives after a clear buildup in how 2K has handled women’s basketball. In 2024, A’ja Wilson shared the NBA 2K25 cover with Jayson Tatum, becoming the first WNBA player on a global edition. Before that, Candace Parker became the first WNBA player on an NBA 2K cover in 2021 on the WNBA 25th anniversary special edition. Clark’s spot is different because it is not tied to a commemorative release or a shared global cover. It is a solo premium edition for one of the game’s marquee versions.

Clark’s reach explains why 2K chose her. She entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever and has quickly become one of the most visible names in basketball, on and off the court. The Fever publicly congratulated Clark on the announcement, underscoring how far her profile has spread beyond Indianapolis and into the wider sports and gaming market.
