Tavola 234 opens in Sharon, bringing fine-dining pasta to downtown
Tavola 234 opened at 234 E. State Street with cavatelli, lasagna and tortellini, giving downtown Sharon a polished new Italian option from the Valley Kitchen team.
Downtown Sharon’s 234 E. State Street has a new draw: Tavola 234, the third restaurant from the Valley Kitchen team, opened as a fine-dining Italian concept in the heart of the city’s commercial core. Chef Billy Picciotto, who is from West Middlesex and returned from Florida about a year and a half ago, is the culinary face of the project, and the opening was staged in the classic small-restaurant way, with a soft opening over the weekend, reservations required, followed by a Tuesday grand opening when walk-in service began.
The menu makes clear that pasta is one of the restaurant’s central bets, not a side note. Tavola 234’s ordering pages list Pasta Alla Norcina with cavatelli, Italian sausage, mushrooms, garlic, white wine cream sauce and pecorino romano. They also show lasagna built with bolognese, béchamel, mozzarella and Parmigiano Reggiano, ricotta gnocchi with pesto, blistered cherry tomatoes, pistachio and Parmigiano Reggiano, and spinach-infused tortellini. Those dishes sit alongside Milanese and other classic Italian secondi, pushing the kitchen toward a full dinner-house identity rather than a quick pasta counter.
JCL Development has framed Tavola234 Italian Kitchen + Lounge as a place for “elevated Italian dining, classic pasta, cocktails & warm hospitality” in downtown Sharon. That language fits the broader expansion strategy the company has been laying out in Mercer County, where it said it has purchased roughly 100 properties in Sharon over the past decade and aimed to help turn the city into a destination for families and young professionals. The City of Sharon also maintains a dining page as part of its downtown promotion, a sign that Tavola 234 is arriving in a district that wants more reasons for people to stay for dinner.
The address itself carries a bit of continuity. An earlier WKBN item showed 234 E. State St. housed Lulu Beans Café, so Tavola 234 is not just opening a restaurant, it is recasting a familiar downtown storefront for a more upscale night out. For Sharon’s pasta crowd, that makes the new room feel less like a casual stop and more like a marker of where downtown dining is headed next.
