Filmmaker Finbar Sullivan killed while filming at Primrose Hill viewpoint
A 21-year-old film student was killed at Primrose Hill while filming with a birthday camera, shaking student filmmakers and photo communities across London.

Finbar Sullivan went to Primrose Hill with a new camera gifted for his birthday, hoping to film in the early evening light. Instead, the 21-year-old film student was fatally stabbed at the north London viewpoint on Tuesday, 7 April, in a death that has hit young creatives with particular force.
Police were called at 6:41pm to reports of a fight at the viewpoint, one of London’s most familiar skyline spots for people carrying cameras, tripods and phones at sunset. Officers arrived with the London Ambulance Service, but despite efforts by paramedics, Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene. The Metropolitan Police named him publicly on 8 April and said his next of kin had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.
Detectives then widened their appeal, asking for a key witness to come forward. Police said a young woman or teenager had been filmed recording a fight in the park shortly before the stabbing, and stressed that she had not committed any crime. Officers were also reviewing footage circulating online that appears to show the lead-up to the killing, as investigators pieced together how a day built around filming ended in tragedy.

By 11 April, police said a 27-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 25-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both remained in custody. The case has sharpened concern around the safety of young people working, shooting and socialising in public places where a camera can mark ambition as clearly as any credential.
Sullivan’s father, Christopher Sullivan, said his son can never be replaced and described the death as the worst tragedy he could imagine. Reporting says Finbar had dreamed of becoming a cameraman and spent much of his time editing films, making the camera he carried at Primrose Hill feel like more than equipment. It stood for a future he was only beginning to frame.
