Godox introduced the V1mid, a new round-head TTL Li-ion on-camera flash priced at $179 that sits between entry-level speedlights and the company’s flagship V1 models. The company positions the unit as a compact option that keeps the signature round-head output while trimming weight and bulk for event, portrait, and on-location work. Godox calls the product “Introducing V1 mid, the newest addition to Godox’s TTL Li-ion Round Head Camera Flash lineup,” and says the V1 mid “delivers a refined balance of power, portability, and precision.”

The V1mid weighs 14.5 oz with the battery inserted, or 413 g, making it noticeably lighter than the V1 Pro at 20.4 oz (580 g) and the V100 at 21.8 oz (619 g). Godox highlights its Optical System and an optimized optical lens group to shape output, promising “brighter output, more even illumination, and smoother light transitions within a compact body.” The unit is aimed at “fast-paced professional shoots,” including weddings, events, and portrait sessions, where mobility and consistent light quality matter.

Key performance numbers are explicit. Godox states the V1mid delivers up to 650 full-power flashes on a single charge and a 1.7 second recycle time, with a thermal protection system that will adjust recycle behavior during extended use. Imaging-Resource and Godox list a power range from 1/256 to full, high-speed sync up to 1/8000 second, and support for TTL, Manual, and Multi modes, plus first- and second-curtain sync. The V1mid retains Godox TTL automation and integrated wireless control, and all versions are compatible with the AK-R1 round-head magnetic accessory system, while Digital Camera World notes the V1mid is not compatible with the SU-1 sub flash used by some other Godox units.

The V1mid ships with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, USB-C charging cable, a USB-C adapter or standard adapter, a mini stand, and a storage bag. U.S. retail lists start at $179, with Digital Camera World converting that to about £131 / AU$256 and Petapixel noting regional pricing may vary because of taxes and duties. B&H is named as an immediate retailer listing the V1mid at $179, and sources note the same hardware will appear under Flashpoint rebranding, variously listed as “Flashpoint Zoom Li-ion X Mid R2 TTL Round Flash” and “Flashpoint Zoom Li-on X Mid R2 TTL Round Flash.”

Community reaction has been mixed and lively. One DPReview commenter, NowHearThis, wrote “For $179, I don’t care about the ‘mid’ designation. As far as I’m concerned this is a ‘shut up and take my money’ flash.” Another commenter, whawha, observed, “Strangely Godox decided not to divulge the guide number of this new flash. I couldn’t find it anywhere, including the manual.” The company has not published an explicit guide number in the materials supplied.

What this means in practice is a pragmatic middle ground: V1mid promises much of the round-head character photographers like about Godox flashes while reducing carrying weight and adding touchscreen convenience and USB-C charging. If guide number or SU-1 compatibility is critical to your workflow, verify those specifics with Godox or retailer spec pages before buying; otherwise the V1mid looks set to fill a gap for mobile shooters who want pro light in a smaller package.
