Nikon Launches PROSTAFF P7 10x50 and 12x50 Binoculars With Multilayer Coatings
Nikon Vision announced the PROSTAFF P7 10x50 and 12x50, touting dielectric multilayer and phase-correction coatings applied to all lenses and prisms for a bright, clear field of view.

Nikon Vision unveiled two new 50mm entries in its PROSTAFF P7 family, the PROSTAFF P7 10x50 and PROSTAFF P7 12x50, with a focus on advanced coatings and high light-gathering optics. Nikon’s press materials state that "multilayer coating [is] applied to all lenses and prisms," pairing dielectric high-reflective multilayer coating with phase-correction coating to "deliver a bright and clear field of view," and note the 12x50 model "features a wide apparent field of view of over 60 degrees."
The announcement was issued from TOKYO on February 17, 2026, by Nikon Vision Co., Ltd., "a subsidiary of Nikon Corporation." Nikon frames the two 50mm models as additions that "expand the lineup of the PROSTAFF P7 series, which has been on the market since June 2022," linking the new models to the 2022 launch that refreshed the PROSTAFF P7 family.
Nikon’s technical and practical claims emphasize field durability and handling. The company says the new binoculars are "equipped with highly practical features, including oil- and water-repellent coating that resists smudges and dirt, as well as a dioptre adjustment ring locking system that prevents unintentional movement during use." Nikon also positions the models for a range of activities, calling them "Ideal for a wide range of applications such as birdwatching, other outdoor activities, stargazing, and marine use."
Nikon USA marketing materials supplement the optics narrative with construction and ergonomics details. For brightness the company describes "Dielectric high-reflective multilayer prism coating and a phase correction coating, which are applied to the roof prisms to reflect more light, illuminating more of the scene." Nikon USA further says the PROSTAFF P7 models were "redesigned with a rugged new exterior construction and functions, improving upon the previous PROSTAFF 7S models," and that the "rugged and rubberized armored body is fog-proof and waterproof, and is constructed of a fiberglass reinforced polycarbonate for a noticeable reduction in weight as well as durability." Retail descriptions add that the series features "fully multi-coated lenses and phase-coated prisms" and may include nitrogen-purged construction with "adjustable eyecups and rubberized grips."

Nikon's materials include a marketing claim that the 50mm PROSTAFF P7 models are "class-leading in weight for their objective size and magnification," but the press release and product pages supplied no numeric weight, no MSRP, and no confirmed ship dates. Specific technical figures missing from the announcement include precise weights in grams or ounces, exact eye relief numbers, apparent or true field of view for the 10x50, close-focus distance, and accessory or warranty details.
Nikon USA retail page captures visible to press also show promotional text such as "FREE 2 DAY DELIVERY ON ORDERS $399+," but the company has not yet published a full numerical spec sheet or pricing for the PROSTAFF P7 10x50 and 12x50. Nikon’s launch positions these models as bright, weatherproof 50mm options for birding, stargazing, marine use, and sporting events while leaving key numeric specifications to be confirmed by follow-up from Nikon.
