Sony registers two more cameras, rumor points to busy release slate
Two Sony camera registrations in China have fueled talk of an A7R VI, a new FX body and a compact model, with releases rumored from May through August.

Two fresh Sony camera registrations in China have added weight to a rumor slate that now spans an A7R VI, a new FX-series body and a compact or entry-level model. For shoppers trying to decide whether to buy now or hold off, the signal is less about exact specs than about Sony clearly lining up more than one launch.
Sony Alpha Rumors says the new registrations landed on April 24, bringing its list to three unreleased Sony camera codes. The site reads ILCE-7RM6 as the A7R VI, a follow-up to the Alpha 7R V, which Sony officially announced on October 26, 2022 with a 61-megapixel sensor and an AI processing unit. It also points to a new ILME-FX-series camera assembled in Shanghai, plus WW721795, a body the site says lacks Wi-Fi 6, which makes a compact or lower-tier camera look more likely than a full-size flagship.

That registration trail does not confirm final specs, but it does suggest Sony is preparing a broader cycle than a single product drop. The rumor timeline now points to an A7R VI announcement in May, a 100-400mm GM lens around the same time, a compact or APS-C camera in June or July, and a new FX model in August before IBC in Amsterdam. IBC 2026 is set for September 11 to 14, giving Sony a clean runway if it wants to seed pro-video news before the show floor opens.
The most interesting part for readers is how uneven the gap lengths are. Sony’s RX100 VII, announced on July 25, 2019, remains the company’s premium compact benchmark, so a new RX100 would land after roughly six years. On the video side, Sony introduced the FX2 on May 28, 2025 as a compact entry point into the Cinema Line, so another FX body arriving less than a year later would underline how aggressively Sony is still building out that family.

Sony Alpha Rumors also says the A7R VI may carry a close-to-67-megapixel sensor, a new body design and a May shipping window. That is still rumor-stage reporting, but the registrations give the chatter more weight than wishful thinking alone. For photographers who need a resolution bump, a pocketable camera or a cinema-focused body, the calendar now looks busy enough to keep waiting a little longer.
