Butterfly signs five-year title deal with Ultimate Table Tennis in India
Butterfly’s five-year deal turns UTT into Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis from 2026 to 2030, a rare long-term bet on India’s fastest-growing pro table tennis circuit.

Butterfly is making a long-term bet on Indian table tennis, not a one-season branding exercise. The Japanese equipment giant has signed a five-year title sponsorship with Ultimate Table Tennis, and the league will be renamed Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis from Season 7 in Goa through Season 11 in 2030.
That length matters. UTT, launched in 2017, is India’s first professional franchise-based table tennis league, and a title deal running across five seasons gives the competition a steadier commercial base than a short promotional tie-up. Butterfly is also set to supply equipment across the wider ecosystem, including the Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis Challenger Cup, local leagues and academy programs, which pushes the partnership well beyond arena signage and broadcast graphics.
Season 7 is scheduled for July 2026 in Goa at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, with UTT saying the league will air on Star Sports and stream on JioHotstar. The move comes as the league keeps widening its footprint. UTT said on March 30, 2026, that UP Prometheans will join as a new franchise from Uttar Pradesh, while Jaipur Patriots exited after contractual issues involving ownership and operations were announced on March 24, 2026.
The business case also lands after a competitive reset on the table. U Mumba TT won Season 6 on June 15, 2025, beating Jaipur Patriots 8-4 in the final in Ahmedabad to claim its first UTT title. Before that, Dempo Goa Challengers had entered Season 6 as the reigning champions after back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. For Butterfly, the five-season runway places the brand inside a league that is still young, but already building identity through winners, new franchises and a growing broadcast footprint.
Vita Dani, UTT’s co-promoter, called the agreement a defining moment for Indian table tennis because it connects a global brand to a league aiming to build an enduring ecosystem. Butterfly chief executive Takako Osawa said the company wants to do more than provide equipment and intends to help create new connections through table tennis while expanding the sport’s appeal.
The timing also reflects India’s rise in the sport. Both the men’s and women’s teams qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics through the ITTF World Team Ranking, a marker of how far the country has moved at the elite level. Butterfly is already listed by the ITTF as a sponsor partner, and this new deal gives that relationship a far bigger stage, with India now positioned as one of the most important growth markets in the global table tennis business.
