Idaho mother accused of killing twin toddlers seeks bond reduction

Court filings filed July 13 added new support to Andrea Renee Shaw’s bid to reduce bond in the Payette County murder case involving her 18-month-old twin toddlers. The filings landed as Shaw, 23, continued to challenge the state’s account of how the children died, even as court reporting said a judge revoked her bond after it had been set at $2 million.

The case, State of Idaho v. Andrea Renee Shaw, is being heard in Payette County District Court under case number CR38-26-1685. A July 2 motion filed by defense attorney Joseph P. Filicetti sought bond reduction and asked for a hearing, and an affidavit from Wendy Marie Shaw followed on July 13 in support of a first amended motion for bond reduction.

Court records identify the alleged victims as D.S. and T.S., Shaw’s fraternal twins. Prosecutors allege the children were suffocated, according to CNN, while Shaw has said the twins died because of vaccinations. That defense position has become central to the bond fight, because it signals the theory Shaw’s legal team appears to be advancing as the case moves toward trial.

The bond dispute has also intersected with Shaw’s family situation. Some reporting said she was seeking release so she could care for a newborn infant, and court coverage said she attended at least one hearing remotely by video. In a case that has drawn national headlines, the bond issue has become one of the clearest early tests of how the court views the seriousness of the allegations and Shaw’s pretrial status.

The filings show the defense is not waiting for trial to shape the record. Filicetti’s motion, the amended request, and Wendy Marie Shaw’s affidavit all push in the same direction: a lower bond and a hearing on release. With the judge having revoked Shaw’s bond, the next move in the case will determine whether that pretrial lockdown remains in place while the murder charge continues through Payette County District Court.
