Oklahoma mother of two killed in apparent murder-suicide by estranged husband

Owasso police say the warning signs were already in place when Sara Gilson, 43, and her estranged husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, 48, were found dead of apparent gunshot wounds in her home on July 23. Investigators said Duffey shot Gilson and then died by suicide. Weeks earlier, Gilson had filed an emergency protective order against Duffey, and reports say he violated it.

One of Gilson’s final TikTok posts showed an empty chair, a blank wall and a visibly nervous mother of two with her hands clasped and knees shaking. The on-screen text suggested she was preparing for a difficult conversation about her estranged husband, and the post referenced allegations that Duffey had been accused of molesting a girl. After her death, the video spread widely online.

Police later released a timeline linking the deadly domestic incident to a federal child sex crime case, adding another layer to a case already shaped by separation and allegations. A 911 dispatcher heard Gilson “screaming and crying” before the killing, a detail that underscored how quickly the call escalated inside the home.

Gilson was remembered by friends and family as a devoted mother and great friend. By the time officers reached the Owasso house, the protective order, the reported violation and the viral warning post had already marked the path to the shooting, and the unanswered question was how the violence was able to move past the first legal barrier.
