Thirty hours offshore paid off in a big way for the New Buccaneer, which brought 22 anglers back to Galveston with 66 yellowfin tuna, 151 blackfin tuna, four bigeye toro and 57 vermillion snapper. Bottom fishing was slowed by weather conditions that were not predicted, but once the boat settled into the tuna program after dark, the night bite took over and turned the trip into a standout haul.

That is the real story in this catch: not just where the boat ran, but how long it stayed committed to the grounds. A 30-hour trip gives Captain Brian room to wait out changing conditions, fish through the night and keep working until the tuna window opens. On a shorter run, the weather interruption might have cut the day short before the tuna ever came around. On this trip, the extra time offshore made the difference.

The New Buccaneer is built for that kind of mission. Galveston Party Boats says the boat is usually reserved for deep-sea trips and holds 100 fishermen, while the company says its captains bring “half a century” of Gulf fishing experience. That matters on long runs out of Galveston waters, where the weather can dictate whether a trip turns into a grind or a meat run. The May 13 haul showed how quickly a trip can shift once the tuna bite turns on after dark.

The catch also fits a strong run of offshore results for the same boat. On March 18-19, the New Buccaneer returned from a 30-hour safari trip with 19 yellowfin tuna, 230 blackfin tuna and 263 vermillion snapper, plus two hake and one golden tile from a brief deep drop in about 1,000 feet of water. Earlier in 2026, the boat came back on February 12-13 with 32 yellowfin, 201 blackfin, 316 vermillion snapper, 12 lane snapper and one almaco jack, and on February 17 with 58 yellowfin, 244 blackfin, 368 vermillion snapper and four almaco jack. Even a 30-hour trip in August 2025 produced 181 blackfin tuna, showing the boat has been stacking results on long offshore runs for months.

Galveston Party Boats has also been scheduling 30-hour safari trips for the New Buccaneer in May 2026, and the May 13 report explains why. In this game, the hot spot matters, but the clock matters more. When the weather holds long enough for a full offshore run, 30 hours can be the difference between a decent day and a tuna slam.
